TO THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH JOE ARPAIO
HE IS THE MARICOPA ARIZONA COUNTY SHERIFF
AND HE KEEPS GETTING ELECTED OVER AND OVER
THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY:
Sheriff Joe Arpaio (in Arizona) who created the "tent city jail":
He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them.
H e stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails. Took away their weights. Cut off all but "G" movies.
He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city projects.
Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued for discrimination.
He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court order that required cable TV for jails so he hooked up the cable TV again with only the Disney channel and the weather channel.
When asked why the weather channel he replied, so they will know how hot it's gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs.
He cut off coffee since it has zero nutritional value.
When the inmates complained, he told them, "This isn't the Ritz/Carlton -- If you don't like it, don't come back."
He bought Newt Gingrich's lecture series on tape that he pipes into the jails.
When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by a Democrat, he replied that a democratic lecture series might explain why a lot of the inmates were in his jails in the first place.
More on the Arizona Sheriff:
With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116 degrees just set a new record), the Associated Press reports: About 2,000 inmates living in a barbed-wire-surrounded tent encampment at the Maricopa County Jail have been given permission to strip down to their government-issued pink boxer shorts.
On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on their bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached 138 degrees inside the week before.
Many were also swathed in wet, pink towels as sweat collected on their chests and dripped down to their pink socks.
"It feels like we are in a furnace," said James Zanzot, an inmate who has lived in the tents for 1 year . "It's inhumane."
Joe Arpaio, the tough-guy sheriff who created the tent city and long ago started making his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic. He said Wednesday that he told all of the inmates: "It's 120 degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too, and they have to wear full battle gear, but they didn't commit any crimes, so shut your damned mouths!" :D :D
Way to go, Sheriff! Maybe if all prisons were like this one there would be a lot less crime and/or repeat offenders. Criminals should be punished for their crimes - not live in luxury until it's time for their parole, only to go out and commit another crime so they can get back in to live on taxpayers' money and enjoy things taxpayers can't afford to have for themselves.

Joe Arpaio also arrests illegal immigrants... the feds tell him he can't do that. He tells the feds they are under arrest for smuggling... they smuggled their azzes into my county... and now they are going to have a little stay in jail!

My sister works for Joe. She says the women are in and out of there constantly. Most for very low level crap. It amazes me as I personally would not want to spend my time there. I also think like alot of repeat offenders, some of it must be from breaking probation which seams to be a trap for some.

Exactly. One is a difference. Also doing it the way he is doing it is saving taxpayer dollars and using inmate labor to get things cleaned up and fixed that we would otherwise be paying somebody to do.

Whether or not these guys return or not is irrelevant. It is a matter of them not living in a better situation while being incarcerated. The good tax paying people are tired of money being wasted on these low life's who have disrupted others lives. Way to go Joe

I wish they could come up with something to rehabilitate these criminals so we don’t have the same problems all the time. Maybe find in there dna what causes them to keep up that life style.

I bet most of it is drug related.

I agree with a lot of the tough stuff he does with the inmates, but President? No way. He is seriously borderline crazy. Have you ever seen any of his interviews? Keep him where he is, he is doing good there.

People in AZ are a bunch of Meth head idiots, so no. They recirculate in and out. It's the county Jail, not prison...prison is much easier than Joe's Pink Tent City. Immigration and the drug runners are just fu#$%ng things up and our polititions are a bunch of idiots. I am glad the bill got crushed the way it was but still, something needs to be done. I have only been out here for about 10 months now and I already got T-boned by a couple illegals driving a stolen 4-Runner, got out and ran. A-Holes. Almost had to Total my Tahoe.  Sorry, didn't mean to rant and I don't think Everone is a meth-head idiot. Joe's jail is filled because of the meth problem and illegals (so they deserve to eat Bologna sandwiches and watch the Discovery Channel), which seem to go hand in hand. A guy last week was electricuted and killed climbing a power pole and trying to steal $40. worth of copper and cost the county $000's to repair. What do you suppose he was going to buy with the $40 bucks, UH, A sack of dope?  Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love it here but for Fu#k sakes man, if I were Joe I would be pissed too and I applaude him for taking a stand and not giving a shit about what people think. Meth is the big issue and because of it, people will steal anything that isn't bolted down...And if it's an ATM machine they'll steal a truck and forklift to steal that too. Oh well, I will probably write some more po'd emails to my congressmen and have another Beer:D
Hey, one thing I love about AZ is that people still get involved and aren't a bunch of lazy Pus&#s.

I'm all for big time punishment and especially Capital punishment but this guy is nothing more than a one man marketing reelection machine.
He knows how to work the voters and knows most voters do not look beyond the headlines of his tent city and chain gang attention getters. At the end of the day we have some of the worse crime in the US and it’s getting worse. Most of his own dept didn’t even back him in the last election as didn’t most of the other agencies in the county.
His methods for managing are 1970's at best. He is ineffective and works voters with his I’m tough on crime crap. It's all crap, what's needed in the role is a real leader to put together an organization and system that works to rid real crime and incarcerate criminals not a headline getting campaigning ego nut.
