Building a SB 383 for a 22 ft sea ray. any advice ie carb.,cam, exhaust, would be helpful. Trying to keep compression down to aprox. 9.5 using 72/cc aluminin heads.

How much HP you looking for?

Here's my 2 cents:
Carb- 750 Holley will be plenty. You might even consider smaller. Vacume secondaries will work.
Cam- Hydraulic Roller Crane grind # HR-276-2S-12IG (214/222 .488/.509), or something in that neighborhood.
Pistons- 9 or 9.5 to 1 should be fine.
Exhaust- I went with EMI Thunder, and I like em.
Ignition- MSD unit works great. Total timing should probably be around 34 degrees, with all of it in by 3,000 RPMs.
IMO (I'm not an expert), you'll be at 350 HP (maybe more) and a little more on torque. Top HP would probably be around 5,000 RPMs. You will have a good idle (around 800 RPMs). A little bigger cam will get you more HP higher in the RPM range, but you will notice the idle.

I've built one.471h.p.dyno,pulls like a bear from bottom to top,200 hours trouble free.Keith Black hyper pistons,Trick-flo twisted wedge heads,Ultradyne cam ser.#g1352 grind# 284h10.Had to use custom built C.M.I. tubes all dry system to stop reversion.Top off with Edlbrock r.p.m. manifold gasket matched and Nickerson Holley stage 5. Ends up 10.3 to 1. Runs on 91 octain or better. The sound at idle alone will give you wood. This is a proven combo. Have fun!

I used G.M. performance parts #039863394. This is an externally ballanced flywheel for 400 smallblock chev. Got the front end of my crank ballanced so I could use a 350 damper. Speed-o-motive makes an excellant stroker kit with an all ballanced rotating assy. Great prices, great service. Call them at (310)945-2758
