Jamie and I are really wanting to go on a cruise. Neither of us have ever been on one. We would like to take one for at least a week. Any suggestions on who to use such as ship, where to, and is it worth it? any suggestions are going to be a great help. We were not planning on taking the kids but if there are any ships that would be fun for all of us that is good too.
Thank you in advance.:D :D

I've been on three cruises and loved every minute of each one. I think cruises are definitely worth it. Carnival and Royal Caribbean are good starter lines. Once you get the hang of it or get more into cruising you might consider cruises on some of the higher end lines.
Here's a good site with reviews and LOTS of other cruise info: http://www.cruisemates.com/
Have fun! :)

Greetings from Seatle WA! :) (Stop overnight on the way to alaska)
Mrs Vee, I've been on 2 cruises.. Carnival sucks ass, don't even bother with it. That's what the college kids go on becuase there cheap. The food sucks, etc..
Royal Carribean is the 2nd one I went on.. To date it's still the best food I've ever eaten (formal dinners) and you can eat as much as you want. I gained 10 lbs in a week (I'm serious when I say that). My whole family went on that cruise and honestly I still look back on it as one of the best weeks of my life.

I've done about 4 of them, I like the Western Carribean one
the best leaving out of Florida for a full week. Cozumel
then Georgetown Grand Cayman, Labadee Haiti and Ocho
Rios Jamaica. these stops were geared around recreation
like snorkeling, scuba, beach etc. Other cruises are more
about shopping.
We enjoyed the Royal Carribean the best
especially great food. All had great activities for the kids
and I wouldn't imagine leaving them at home. Babysitting
in your room or at the rec centers for the kids is available
and reasonable. You sign your kids in and unless they're
18, they don't get out until you sign them out and of course they're fed and have acivities all day and into the night. If you want more specific info about what to do at
each of those places, let me know.
You'll eat, drink, eat, eat, eat, drink, eat, eat nap, drink eat and then it's lunch. Then more!

I've done 20+ cruises, I LOVE IT!! Cruises are great fun, relaxing, and a good bargain for the money. So heres my advice. Carnival is the bottom of the ladder, Crystal cruises are close to the top. I stay with princess, in fact, I am looking at a 9 day out of New York at the end of August, we'll see. In any case, the (general) rule is this. The farther north you go, the older the crowd tends to be, because the weather is cooler, but the more southern, the younger. Having been to both places, I like them both. I tend to like to head for the Carribean, Chris and I love to snorkal and scuba dive. And the shopping is the best...if I were you, I would head for the Carribean, I don't like Mexico much, and kick back and relax..here is a link to the trip we are planning on.....have fun.....

First of all I know that it’s about 3:13 in the AM and I am on H.B. but whatever… You definitely need to spend the extra money on a balcony room. Do the Tahitian Princess for the 10 day. The cruise…AWESOME!!! If you have never cruised before this is the one. But again get a balcony. It is well worth the little bit extra. F! Carnival or anything else out of Long beach or L.A. If you like staying at the Circus Circus in Las Vegas you will like Carnival Cruise Line. It is CRAP!!! If you get my drift. Cruising is a great way to travel. You only have to unpack once and see a bunch of deferent ports. I would also slip your Stewart a $20.00 right off the bat. It will guarantee great service your whole cruise. Small price to pay for 10 days of great service. I would also bring some of your own booze. It will save you a few hundred bucks on the cruise. if you need more advice PM me and in the morning and I will probably be more help full. Good luck and may the Force be with you….ALWAYS!

Cruise Tahiti, we've done it twice, but leave the kids at home. It is the most beautiful place on earth. A little pricey but well worth it. Its a hour over night flight from LAX. Not a lot of shopping and such, only beach bars like the "Bloody Mary's" from WWII movie South Pacific. Jeep tours to WWII gun sites at the top of the Island, so you have a 360 degree view South Pacific, a site I'll never forget. Blue green water and white sand island as far as you can see. But if you like water sports snorkeling, wind surfing, kayaking it's right off the back of the ship. Or of course just laying on a white sand beach with your bride and favorite drink, it the best. Oh yes, Tahiti is a French territory most beaches are topless and so our some of the ships.
Enjoy

Jamie and I are really wanting to go on a cruise. Neither of us have ever been on one. We would like to take one for at least a week. We were not planning on taking the kids but if there are any ships that would be fun for all of us that is good too.

We have have been going on the Regent line they have smaller boats but are a little more pricey. Heading to Italy in a couple of days and going to pick up boat there. Boat only holds 300 people, I like the smaller crowd. Not really children friendly.

Did the Panama Camel cruise out of Acapulco, dad and sister caught the ship in Long Beach, and met us in Acapulco. I dreaded the whole idea...at sea for two days at a time. I scratched and clawed my way onto the boat (Princess), hooked up with dad on the back of the ship when the ship left port (at night...WOW what a view) with a couple of Cuban Smokes. I was sold about a half hour out of Acapulco. Cant remember such a great vacation....older group though, but worth it. The canal was unbelievable, watching dad as we went through it was a once in a lifetime event. (he went through the canal in the Navy in the 40's). The trip through the Caribbean was fantastic, Aruba, Dominica, and a few islands I hadn't heard of. Up to Panama for the flight home. I wouldn't have missed this for the world.
Just about paid for the trip at the casino, hit two three of a kind on three card, and won the blackjack tourney. (used all my blackjack skills:D )
The food...that's another thread!!!:D

Hey Char, we just went to Tahiti on the Princess line in Feb, you should have gone with us.:D Jamie could have watched the kids:devil: :D
Seriously, we have done 2 cruises in the last couple years, Our favorite ship was the Royal Caribbean going to the Western side. It was 7 days and we had a group of 12. The Royal had way better food than the Princess and was a WAY bigger ship with about 3500 passengers:eek: It was also a nicer ship inside. There were alot of kids and under 40 people on this ship. There was alot to do on and off the ship, but the pool area was crowded.
The Tahitian princess held about 600 people and was an older crowd. There were only 3 kids under 15 or so and the median age was about 55. It was a smaller ship and we had 3 couples, including ourselves. Food was ok but not great like the Royal, and the ship never felt busy at all. We did 10 days on the ship and a couple extra before at the Intercontinental. The beaches are crushed coral and you must wear sandals to walk around. If you want to "get away from it ALL" this is the place.
Go to Cruisecritic.com for a wealth of info on all the lines.
I'll send you Angies e-mail and she can send you a link to her review and the pics from both cruises.

I've been on 9 cruises...6 of which were on Windstar an absolutely awesome cruise line. They are smaller boats 148 to 310 people so you don't fight for chairs. You can eat whenever you want, even in your cabin. The cabins are much bigger. The back of the boat opens up and a skiboat pulls out to take you skiing. They don't pull into large ports with all the big cruiseliners, they anchor in private coves. They usually have a large bbq one day during the week where everyone on the boat parties, including crew, on a private island... Also, they don't have formal nights so no tuxes and gowns allowed!!!!:D

My two cents if its your first cruise see if you can book a reposistion cruise. Most cruise lines have seasonal trips and move their ships around to different ports for dif. seasons. Its cheaper for them to reposistion their ships with some paying customers, instead of empty. Shorter and they usely offer a pretty good discount to get customers.
My Uncle gets credit for the above info. First Officer/relief Captain on huge a$$ car ferries and he goes on mini-cruises for vacation.......... :jawdrop:

You are absolutly cheating yourself if you don't do a Windjammer cruise. We picked up the "Legacy" in St Thomas about 7 years ago. All of their boats are tall ships and believe me when I say this.....You will not be dissapointed. Pay for the biggest room on the boat that you can afford (the whole thing is affordable anyways) and you will enjoy being a pirate for a week. The boat we were on had 179 poeple on it and 65 crew. We experienced the life of Jimmy Buffet by cruising to small quaint islands around the Carrribean. One of them even had an honor bar. The name of the place was "Ivan's no Stress Beach Bar". At 5pm Ivan said "Hey Mon' I got to go, you guys have a good time". He pulled a Plano tackle box from under the bar with $20's, $10's etc for you to make change and said "it's your Karma mon' See ya later". Most fun I have ever had in a long time on that ship. Everyday there are activities planned when you return from your shore excursions, Crab races, Wine tasting Trivia contests etc. And free Rum Punch every day when you get back on the boat.

Miss Vee.....ever been to Hawaii??? Do the NCL Hawiian Criuse. I have been on SEVERAL cruises. (Carnival is ROTTEN)
NCL IS THE BEST!!!! NO SCHEDULE! A lot of these cruise lines have you on a "Schedule" You have only a certian time to eat meals. F-ck that!! On NCL you have NO schedule and they have a resteraunt for EVERY theme of food you can think of....open ALL the time. The food and the service was GREAT!!! It was the best vacation I have ever been on!! Yes...even over the river.
