The price of fuel at Lake Havasu Marina was $3.89 a gallon Friday. Sandpoint Marina wasn't much cheaper at $3.69.
The steep prices have scared away a lot of business, said Robert Tucker, Sandpoint Marina's vice president of operations. The amount of gas the marina has sold has gone down each of the past three years, he said.
In 2004, it sold 94,694 gallons. In 2005, it sold 62,852 gallons, and in 2006, 62,000 gallons. Since Jan. 1, it's sold 30,187 gallons, Tucker said.
“When a big pickle boat used to pull in, they used to put $140 or $150 worth of gas in their boat. Now it's closer to $50,” he said

I think most folks just fuel up on the trailer in town to avoid the expensive marinas.

The article confirms the "Azzhole theory, I think they are trying to say lake attendance is down...wrong, why buy gas on the lake if you don't have to, most fill up in town and if they run it enough to warrant buying on the lake then they sure are not going to fill it up!!!!DAHHH:eek:

Yup, that is why if I have to buy gas on the lake, I at least pay for the higher octance.

We went by Sandpoint last week and we were wondering why the gas was so cheap (compared to up river). Unless it is an emergency I won't ever buy at a marina and here is why: The last time I did it cost 4.95 a gallon and another $600.00 to go through the fuel system afterwards, had to get filters, carb gone through and cleaned the tanks due to bad fuel...Much easier to pull the boat up to pilot or even at the rip off stations by needles on the way to town to fill up vs getting crap fuel and ruining your day.

I can't imagine what the cost to operate a station at a marina would be.

not sure but I figure if 2 marina's can sell for 3.69 to 3.89 a gallon then the ones up river only a 30 and 50 minute boat ride away could not cost any more to run to justify 1.10 more per gallon. On top of that getting bad fuel while paying the high price is what erks most boaters.

I find it hard to believe that Uncle Sam doesnt have his hand shoved down their pockets. I am sure there is some EPA, BLM, Coastal Fee, ect. form of nut squeezing going on some where:idea:
