The old Cask 'n Cleaver Ski Race Teams? Two reasons to bring it up; the Catalina is coming up this Saturday, and two, the Cask just had their 40th annaversery(sp) on Saturday. My former sponsor/team mate, Cliff Scott retired at the party, and the other team owner, Paul Spencer was also there. Between us we had about 6 Schiada's, a Spectra and a Rayson. There were a lot of old people there as well, but the pictures of the boats still looked great. The Cask boat won the Catalina in '79 and '81 and we took a lot of class wins as well...

I worked at the original 9th street cask right out of high school. I remember the "firehouse" tour I got from Paul Jr. back then. Haven't seen him since.

Hey,
If you aren't on a boat this Sat, where's the best place to gather @ watch the start? I've never been to it, so I don't know where the boats launch from - probably a lot different than watching the antics @ Site 6 I'd imagine.

Spectra, thanks for posting the picture. It was taken by my son. In those days no radio, GPS or any other guidance was allowed except compass, but we legally used an airplane to guide us back to the harbor.
LHC, Nancy won't be at the Catalina Saturday.
Faceaz, one of the best places to watch the race used to be the fan tail of the QM, but if they have the giant TV set up by the Coast Hotel again, that would be good. Its fun to see the start of the race live at the QM or off the rock at Pier J then walk back to the hotel. Before the race starts, every boat must parade past the dock at the hotel and turn in someone's drivers license. Thats a great show of every boat thats entered. I've seen in excess of 140 boats entered, but hear this years entries are down to about 80, but thats not official...
