View Full Version : Anyone do concrete saw cutting?

Approximately 50 foot long cut along side a fence (sidewalk).
How close to fence can a cut be made without the machine hitting the fence? Would prefer about 6" away from fence. Sidewalk runs to fence. Need to cut the side of a sidewalk off to install a pipe.
Not something that's urgent, just gathering info for when the weather cools off a bit.

Six inches is doable with an 18" Target walk-behind saw, Rexie. Uh, unless you used your personal measuring tape. That's four inches.

I just did the same thing this weekend. We cut a 3" wide 20' long trench for a gasline installation to a firepit. I rented a saw from Home Depot for about $150.00. Cutting the concrete didn't take more than an hour.

RRRR is right. Most walk behind saws will get you within about 3". The only bad thing about his idea is using a Target saw.. (Brand loyalty issues... Bro in law owns Terra Diamond)...
Another option, if you have a steady hand, is to rent a gas fired "demo" saw with a diamond blade.

6" is no problem...........We have several saws that have that capability.
Do you know how thick the concrete is?

That should be np... Its not really that hard to do.
FWI spend the $7 and rent the small trailer, it will save your back getting the saw out of the truck( they are a heavy SOBs)
Hell if you want to pay for shiping back and forth I'll let you use my dimond saw blade.

you can do it yourself with a skill saw and a concrete diamond blade with a steady stream of water on the blade. That's how we do it anyway. shhhhh:jawdrop:

Cutting fifty feet of concrete with a circular saw would be a great character building exercise. Go for it, Rex.

I used to run a flat saw, Mecco 35hp and 65hp and occassionally I would have to make a hand cut with a quickie saw and that was misery. A skill saw will take all day!

Agreed........you do NOT want to make that cut with a skill saw.
Make it easy on yourself, and tell me when I can drop off a walk-behind saw.
I live in San Dimas.........about a mile away.

I can get a saw there for cheaper if you want to pay cash. I know just about every saw cutter from here to az.
Kennedy equipment in orange rents meco saws/ A push saw will run you about 35 a day. A 35hp self propelled is about 80 a day.

Don't forget if you rent a saw, you will also have to pay for blade wear, and you will also have to rent a vacuum, don't even think about washing down the concrete slurry into the gutter.

I'm pretty sure that he will cut him some slack on the blade mic. What company do you own, or work for?

Are diamond blades pretty standard on rentals or are there other types?
I imagine it's 3.5 to 4" standard res sidewalk crap.

for the most part they have 2 ways of doing it, They charge you a flat rate( some where around 50) or they give you like 5 thousands free then charge you per thousandth after that. United rentals does the flat charge if I remember correctly.
I'll be more then happy to let you use my blade if you pay for shiping( its only got about 100 ft on it, they last about 1200-1500 if you keep it really wet and go slow.
