I'm trying to connect my new camera to the USB port and it says that it can't recognize the connection or some crap. I have restarted my computer and tried plugging it into different ports and nothing works. What do I try next?

make sure the usb driver is loaded. Look under hardware devicesto see if its loaded . It also may be a bad port.

also check the camera manual...
sometimes on the camera you have to have it in a certain mode

You may have to load software for the camera for it to work.

YEP!!, If you have no disk, all manufacturers have the drivers for the cameras on their websites.
Another option, memory card slot?

I put in the disk (read the directions) and followed the steps then went to connect the camera like I was supposed to and it "cannot confirm a connection." This has happend to me before with printers and can't remember how I fixed it.

Is the camera set to the "view" setting? All the ones I have had need to be switched to the picture viewing mode.
You ain't running windows Vista are you?

Kodak printer dock setup? Got my wife one for christmas, disturbingly difficult to operate and some of the most intrusive software I have ever seen. Prints nice pics though.

You should not need the camera software to get your pictures. Alot of time, that software jacks up your system and loads it with unnecessary BS to help slow your system down. Your XP system should see your camera as a removable hard drive or memory.
Check your camera setting and make sure it doesnt need to be in a specific setting to hook to a computer.
Also check your Device Manager to insure your USB ports are working correctly.
Have fun! ;)
