What kind of motor oil do you 496 guys use? I am due for an oil change (the first one on a 496 for me). I have always used Delo 400 in my boat engines. Just wondering what you use.

There is another thread or two on this. I don't think there are two of us here that run the exact same.
I run Mobil-1 10/30 from Costco. Others run the same, but 15/30. Several run different flavors of Royal Purple. Others just plain 40w Quicksilver (Merc).
Basically, I run what I put in the pickup that pulls it.

I have a 502mag and know this doesn't pertain to the 596, but I would definately suggest synthetic whatever weight you use......

Valvoline VR-1 40w conventional is what we always use, never had one single problem with it.

Mobil 1 15/40 gold cap....
Do a search for oil and see what ya get or go to Offshoreonly.com and in look for hydrocruiser's encyclopediac post on oil....much more that mortals want to know about oil and filters....

In the past I used Valvoline 40wt in all my hot rods and boats.
I just did a oil change in the new 496 and decided to stay with
Mercruiser 25-40wt .First oil change
I know one thing it looks and feels different than Valvoline.
Only thing is you can only get it at boat shops.
I also like to hear what others are using in the new type engines.

I run Mercury 25-40W in my HO. I believe that is what merc recommends now, a multi grade.
