I was just wondering if any of the follwoing boats would be ok to put in the salty stuff from time to time to make a run from like Long Beach to Newport Beach or something like that to hit the bars:
24 Schiada mini Offshore
255 Hallett
25 Howard
25 Eliminator
25 Shockwave
25 Cole
247 Ultra
If so, do I need any other mods other than a sea Strainer assuming I have a new 496 HO or 502/ Bravo XZ combination..

You can do it but I'd recomend the morning. Anything past about 1:30 the wind usually kicks up and you'll hate life...

I feel that boats are like bank accounts and boobs ,,,,,,THE BIGGER THE BETTER when in the big pond 30 foot plus is the only way to go,one minute the waters like glass next thing your grabbing your ass and looking for dry land, I personally boat 80% in the Atlantic from Fla. to the Bahamas totally different ball game. A 24 footer a few miles out is like say,,me in a new Corvette racing Michael Schumacher in his F1 car, they both run fast and handle well but the one is better suited for racing,, hope this helps but be safe.

I have to agree, the bigger the better. We ran from Dana Point to Newport on memorial in our new 38 Cig and friend ran with us in his 27 Formula. We were running in about 4-5' swells and he was getting beat up pretty bad in his Formula. Our Cig was running through the swells at 65 mph with no problem. The smaller boat worked, but if definitely was not a comfortable looking ride.

MrHavasu, you better post a picture of your new toy for us.Is this the end of a honeymoon with smaller boats for you http://free.***boat.net/ubb/wink.gif ?

Spectras only,
There have been some pictures posted in the "cats and tunnels" section under "Mach 26 for sale" (it is the one with 30 post, there are two with the same name). You can also see it at www.dicksimonmarine.com, (http://www.dicksimonmarine.com/) look under "boat of the month (they have not taken it off their site yet).
As far as being done with smaller boats, I don't think so. I really wish I could afford to keep my Mach and the Cig, but I just can't do it. We would like to get another cat to keep at Havasu for some speed runs. Maybe a Mach 22 with twins, or something similar. But it will be a few years.

Beautiful boat, the only thing I would change is the instrument panel graphics http://free.***boat.net/ubb/wink.gif,it might make me dizzy after awhile {wish had that problem, hehe]but heck who's boat is it anyway! The biggest offshore boat I was on is a 42 footer with triples http://free.***boat.net/ubb/biggrin.gif. Nothing like busting 6 footers in the drink and not spilling anyone http://free.***boat.net/ubb/biggrin.gif.Have fun ,be safe

Actually the panel ties in well with the rest of the boat. You really have to be in the boat to tell. It matches the paint on the deck, the port side panel, and the cockpit carpet very well.
Running through those 5 footers at 65 was a blast. Hopefully the wind will kick up at Havasu in the afternoon this weekend so I can make some wide open passes through the chop, still won't compare to the ocean though. Thanks for the compliments, and suggestions. http://free.***boat.net/ubb/cool.gif

Most people prefer smooth water with small crafts, but I live by the ocean and really like it when it's rough ,with a suitable boat of course http://free.***boat.net/ubb/biggrin.gif.There are a lot of 30+ boats in the okanagan lakes where you could hardly ever appreciate a true offshore boat.

You see some people out here running large offshore boats in fresh water only. They don't know what they are missing not droping them in the salt.

2Prop,
I don't know how much I could help, but I do know what Dick Simon payed for the boat I bought. This might give you some idea of what kind of profit margin they are making off you. If this would help let me know and I will e-mail it to you.
Another thing I will add is the Cig's seem to hold their value better than most other comparable boats. This is one thing that makes it a little easier shelling out a little more.

2prop,I've figured you had your hands full with your project, since haven't seen you posting for awhile.Good luck getting the cig.The 38 would definately be more comfy to ride ,maybe your better half will be interested in boating again as well.Things don't go that well with my project. With all the good referralls from the marina managers,my surveyor and odd customers,my painter turned out to be a lazy bastard and the 3 weeks or so work required on my boat turned into a nearly eight months of battle with him. What his scam is , he collects some downpayments for "materials" from different customers ,does a little work on your boat and jumps to the next sucker. After that it becomes a nagging ordeal to get him finish the job. After a lenghty stalling and excuses ,he decided he couldn't finish my boat .[he started working on a 65' sailboat that will never be finished I'm sure now].So I decided to pull my boat out of his shed. Now comes the real eye opener. He had my boat entoombed in a makeshift shed on the boatyard [this becomes HIS property]and drums up a figure how much I owe him top of the downpayment I gave him previously.I told him that he won't get a penny from me since he hasn't even done enough work for the downpayment and I'm coming to pick up my boat.He had the balls to call the bailiff [another scumbag]who seized my boat with a mechanic's lien. What a joke! Over the months the marina operators learned my experience with him, they're on my side BUT still harbouring this criminal. They all are bloody wharf rats including the bailiff ,who negotiated to get my boat back for an additional 1000$.At this point I wanted to get my boat out of there before he would do some willfull demage, to make me snap and bust his skull ,landing me in jail in the process. It's the principal that really bothered me that these scumbags can operate from one place to another without punishment.I have a friend who works at revenue canada [irs]who will make sure he's going to pay tax on this money and audit him in the process.Hopefully he'll have a few sleepless nights.Sorry for grumbling about this matter ,but wanted others to read this story to be aware of fun and games involving restoration of a boat, or a car for that matter. All the people who reffered him to me, knew him for years but still didn't matter ,I got duped http://free.***boat.net/ubb/mad.gif http://free.***boat.net/ubb/mad.gif http://free.***boat.net/ubb/mad.gif Ps; maybe if we could have guns as easily as you guys in the states, people would be a little more respectful knowing they might get killed ,pissing somebody off.I'm sure the hell's angels get less trouble getting their bikes done in a reasonable time http://free.***boat.net/ubb/wink.gif.Phew ,that was long winded.PS; just found out the f...n bailiff is also a phoney ,using his parents credentials for years at this yard seizing boats left & right!
