A while back, beaverretriever posted a thread about his uncle Frank and how seeing him deteriorate from the advanced stages of the disease has affected beaverretriever much more than he thought it would.
We learned that many of you also have family who were affected with the fatal disease. From that, we took the opportunity to make a difference and help others like uncle Frank by signing up to participate in the Memory Walk (http://memorywalk2007.kintera.org/faf/help/helpEventInfo.asp?ievent=230577&lis=0&kntae230577=8DB61FBE3A584DAA9558C3AA9A3A6D00)this October.
For uncle Frank, the funds we raise will be too late to help him but we are walking in his honor and to help others with Alzheimer's, further research, and raise funds to aid those family coping with the disease.
More information about the event is below but you can skip it all and donate here: http://memorywalk2007.kintera.org/lasvegas/unclefrank. Every little contribution counts and will be much appreciated! Thank you for your support.

Millions of American families are caring for a loved one with AlzheimerÂ’s. One of those families is one of our own, Frank and Leanna Costanza. Uncle Frank (pictured above with Johnny) has been living with Alzheimer's for the past 8 years and is now in the advanced stages of the disease. This debilitating disease is the 7th leading cause of death in the U.S. and every 72 seconds, someone is diagnosed with the disease.
Recently, Frank and Leanna made a surprise visit to Las Vegas. It was good to see them and we had a great time but we were deeply saddened by the gravity of Uncle Frank's condition. I posted photos and wrote a little bit about our short visit with them the first time (http://www.hellodaly.com/2007/07/i-hope-you-dance.html) and once again (http://www.hellodaly.com/2007/07/dear-uncle-frank.html) before they left for their home in Montana.
For all of those millions of people fighting this disease and to honor Uncle Frank, Johnny and I are participating in the AlzheimerÂ’s Association Desert Southwest Chapter Memory Walk (http://memorywalk2007.kintera.org/faf/help/helpEventInfo.asp?ievent=230577&lis=1&kntae230577=3E95E0C8698847C5BAC90C634ACA4210 ) this October 20th right here in Las Vegas.
We hope to be able to raise at least $2,000 to support the AlzheimerÂ’s Association Desert Southwest Chapter*, which provides consultation, information and referral, and support programs to those affected by AlzheimerÂ’s. Our first donation of $150.00 came from Henderson Harley Davidson (http://www.hendersonhd.com/)! (For every $500 we raise, our names will be placed in a drawing to win one of two awesome trips to Las Vegas. We'd like to surprise Uncle Frank and Leanna with the award if we win.)
We know we can achieve our fundraising goal with the support of friends like you. Would you please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer's Association? No amount is too small because collectively, we can make a difference in the fight against Alzheimer's. You can give online through the link below.
Thank you,
Johnny & Daly

Here is the post I made about our uncle.

Any amount will help. 1 dollar, 5 dollars or 500. It doesn't matter. If any of you have a loved one with this diease and have experienced it first hand you know how horrible it is.
Thanks in advance.:)

Heck, we are not asking for much. 1.00 will help. I know you guys blow money like its going out of style. This is a great cause. :)
We have NEVER done anything like this before but this really hit my wife and I hard and we would like to make a difference.

I will personally take beer donations (http://memorywalk2007.kintera.org/lasvegas/unclefrank)! ;) It's going to be a long walk...http://www.hellodaly.com/GIF%20Animation/smiley_lol.gif Just kidding, we'd gladly take in monetary donations (http://memorywalk2007.kintera.org/lasvegas/unclefrank) what you'd spend in beer (or hard liquor) donations. So it would be nice to receive some donations (http://memorywalk2007.kintera.org/lasvegas/unclefrank) from the Patron drinkers. Keystone lovers are also welcome to donate (http://memorywalk2007.kintera.org/lasvegas/unclefrank).
I am imagining it raining silvers and paper bills as I'm walking along...like Madonna in her Material Girl video (http://youtube.com/watch?v=8K4dQ2kCiSo)!!
The money does go in our pockets but to the Alzheimer's Association to fund research and services for families that are struggling with Alzheimer's.
Donate (http://memorywalk2007.kintera.org/lasvegas/unclefrank) in memory of your loved ones. Donate (http://memorywalk2007.kintera.org/lasvegas/unclefrank) in honor of those that are still here; love and do for them while you still can.

Man, you guys suck. I posted this on a car site I belong to and most of the people on there don't have a dime and we have already got at least 5+ donations.

I'mTheBeaver

I know that it seems money is always going out for one thing or another but whatever you can donate will be greatly appreciated.
We are looking for support through more names on the roll call of contributors! You don't even have to disclose the amount you donated. If just 200 people donate $10, we will exceed our goal! Or 400 donating $5. If we had a dollar for every visit to this thread, we would have raised $89 or more.
You can donate in honor of someone or in memory of another. So please, get your credit, debit card out and visit the site: http://memorywalk2007.kintera.org/lasvegas/unclefrank
We have never asked strangers, friends, or family for money but we believe it is a great cause. We are doing this for our uncle (http://www.hellodaly.com/2007/07/i-hope-you-dance.html), for the millions of others out there with Alzheimer's, for those who can't walk, for those who are no longer with us...and those who are still here.
We would love to just give all the money we raise to our uncle and his wife but that would be helping only two people. It is too late for him (he will most likely die within this year) and the money will be put to good use for others and the research to stop this disease.
If you still have funds available in your donation budget, we would love to see your names on the roll call (http://memorywalk2007.kintera.org/lasvegas/unclefrank)!!

AWESOME... thanks Alan, I take back everything I ever said about cops...JK;) . If you knew my uncle you would definitely know why this means so much to us. Thank you for caring. Like my wife said, we have never asked anyone for money, but we feel that this is an awesome cause. Thanks again bro.
A little info on my awesome uncle Frank he is a pretty famous guy. He has had two Hot Rod magazine cover cars, won the LA roadster show and countless others.
He was a historian for the movies and all the producers liked his old timey look so much they put him in the movie as well.
The biggest movie he was in was Dances With Wolves. He played Lt Tucker.

Hey, no problem.
All kidding aside, I HAVE been on a few "Alzheimer's walks".
Pepper (my bloodhound) and I have many miles on our paws out traipsing through the desert Searching for Alzheimer's folks who've wandered away. Although we found some of them OK, others haven't turned out so well. :(
Anything to help halt this disease will benefit more than just the victims and families.

We appologize to others that may have donated, but the money meter has not registered a few hundred dollars yet that may have been sent by check.

I just want to let you guys know how much your support means to us and how much we appreciate all of you jumping up to the plate for this cause--especially for someone you don't know (Uncle Frank).
We wrote Leanna, his wife, to send all of your thoughts, let them know that we are doing the Memory Walk, and the support we've received from the good people of ***boat.
This was her response:
I am so happy to hear what you and Johnny are doing!!! We have just one support group here in the valley and they only meet the first fri. for one hour each month. Only two homes will take in this type of illness and have just a few rooms to offer.
The caregivers I have love Frank and are kind to him How ever this is a
cost in a higher scale for care and I am looking for ways to get help so
I can keep him home. Please give my proud thanks to all the people that
are donating.
Just a small fun note, Frank took his new guy to Church with him on
sunday and told everyone that he was a good guy!! In his way this was
telling us that he loves him.
Thank you again for the e-mails they do help me.
Frank's "new guy" is the Starbucks bear we gave him during his visit.
http://www.hellodaly.com/uploaded_images/CIMG0024-764670.JPG http://www.hellodaly.com/uploaded_images/CIMG0041-749384.JPG
He cried when we gave him that bear and said, that no one has ever given him a doll before. (The stuffed panda was one that was left behind by their granddaughter). Uncle Frank kept pointing to me and saying to others, "He's a good guy!" and then "I love you".
Before that he was carrying a small stuffed panda bear around.
http://www.hellodaly.com/uploaded_images/CIMG0014-767228.JPG (http://memorywalk2007.kintera.org/lasvegas/unclefrank)
I get teary eye when I think about him. He still has a heart and feelings -- he just can not express his emotions in words like we can. But tears and hugs say the same thing.
THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR GENEROSITY AND SUPPORT!! You've helped put Team Costanza in 2nd top fundraiser (http://memorywalk2007.kintera.org/faf/home/default.asp?ievent=230577&lis=1&kntae230577=87853F4C229844C1AAD7271886B1A1D3&login=t) for this event!!!

Thanks for raising awareness Johnny and Daly
James
Thank you for your generosity and support, James.
Every 72 seconds...(I'm counting but I only have ten fingers and toes)...someone is diagnosed with the disease.
Alzheimer's doesn't sound like a scary disease, does it? All I knew was that those affected lose their memory, forget things, and wander off. I had never seen the devastating effect first hand until Uncle Frank. Seeing someone who was once a lively, productive person slowly waste away and dying before our eyes. And there's nothing we can do to stop it. What a horrible disease.

Day 3: We're still reeling from the overwhelming support we've received since launching our campaign to smash out Alzheimer's (http://memorywalk2007.kintera.org/lasvegas/unclefrank).
Thank you to our kind and generous donors. We can not stress enough how much we truly appreciate your gift to the AlzheimerÂ’s Association Desert Southwest Chapter (http://memorywalk2007.kintera.org/faf/help/helpAboutOrg.asp?ievent=230577&lis=0&kntae230577=EC510162A8FA49D29A1642CA65C9F5EC). This chapter is "the first and largest health and social service organization dedicated to providing
support for families affected by dementia, finding prevention methods, treatments and an eventual cure for AlzheimerÂ’s disease" and has been operating for over 20 years.
Not one penny goes to us. Not one penny goes to pay for our transportation, airfare, hotel, dinner, drinks, and/or special trips to some far away land just to participate in the Memory Walk. (http://memorywalk2007.kintera.org/lasvegas/unclefrank) Every cent goes to the local chapter to support those families in need and the research to wipe out this disease like mullets going out of style!
Like the All-American Reject song, Move Along (http://www.hellodaly.com/music/move_along.mp3), we are moving along! WHOO-HOO!!!
When all you got to keep is strong
Move along, move along like I know you do
And even when your hope is gone
Move along, move along just to make it through
We are now the #1 fundraiser for this event and it is all because of you!
