Not saying it's a race....Just want to know what the spread is on who's gonna be first:D
You have the 43 Scarab that has been #1 (suprisingly) a couple years.
You have Bobbits 40 Skater that is said to be able to run in the waaaay upper 100's
You have the new black outerlimits coming out that runs well into the 135 mark.
You have Tom W. and his T/S Cig that kicked azz in the Rum run.
then there's always Teague, CRC boat, and other pro racers.
So what are the bets? First to Catalina????
Open ocean running....Going to be interesting.

Tank, I am going to give Bobbit and the white scarab a run this year, I am using a 50' Nor Tech super cat with 4 yes 4 1150 Nor Tech engines. You don't have to be the fastest boat, but with 50 ft to work with I will not have to slow down for some of the water conditions that will keep these other boats throttling down

I will be donating two of these tool bags for the scope poker run. They are american made and can carry all the tools you need on the boat or you can put up to a 17" laptop in it. They will have the SCOPE logo on them and I will have an extra dozen with me for sale at the docks for $85.00 ea

bgchuby01
08-19-2007, 10:06 AM
I will also be donating one set (two) number 6 propeller cases to store your props. These are the same cases you see at the boat races and also the ones that come with your boat from Outerlimits, skater, and mti. I will also have boxes at the poker run for sale. They can now be made with wheels and a telescoping handle on them so that you do not have to carry them down the dock. Wheels and handles adds an extra 35 dollars per case. For those of you with smaller props I have two sets in stock here.
One set is 17" x 17" for bravo and those boxes are $115.00 ea
One set is 18" x 14.5" for the smaller props, and those boxes are $95.00 ea
I have these in stock here in Canyon Lake.

They may mess up their sparkle paint jobs. Or maybe they won't stay together in a 4 - 6 sea. As a kid in Miami we used to run 24ft single engine boats in that water, but we did not have the sparkle paint job

As with many marathon boat races, it will depend on water conditions; chop with no big swell, the cats will do well; tall swells look for the big V's to do well

Dude! Sweet!

Man I hope it's a big day!
In the morning yesterday, it was glassy with a nice little roll, but after about 1, someone fired up the washing machine. Still a perfect day to run over to the island and back (I was pre-running!).
I've only got mid sixties in my boat right now, so save me some beers at the party! Fortunately she'll run mid sixties in anything!

I've been running in this run since 1997 and I've NEVER been to the SCOPE poker run where it was a big day. It's always calm this time of year. I've seen Havasu bigger than the times I"ve run the SCOPE poker run. I ran the run two times in a 24' Baja Outlaw and never had a problem.
If you are worried your boat isn't big enough to come out and run and have a great weekend, you're mistaken. Bring it out, have some fun. You only need to go as fast as you want and theres a long course and a short course (short course hugs the coast and doesn't get out in the rollers towards catalina).
Bring your boats, big or small!

No I'm gonna stick to poker runs.... There were plenty of boats that could have gotten there before me but with the smooth water everyone felt safe and alot of people just cruised... I think if you ask Insurance God (Shawn) he'll tell you for whatever reason the water just seemed to lay down for us. You'll see in the video no big air for us from Long Beach to Catalina....

Looks like the Orange County Register will be running a story about the SCOPE run....
Here is the copy I was sent by them in advance
HIGH SPEED ON THE HIGH SEAS FUELED BY ANAHEIM CHEVY
Bragging rights to one very fast powerboat now belong to Anaheim Chevrolet, which sponsored the 42-foot Fountain in the 14th Annual Poker Run of the Southern California Offshore Powerboat Elite (S.C.O.P.E.). In the first leg of the four-part Sept. 29 run, Fountain was the first boat to make it from Long Beach to Santa Catalina Island.
Fountain is powered by two General Motors-based twin 1300 hp motors -- the equivalent of two Monster truck power plants in one boat hull, according to Jay Photoglou, General Sales Manager at Anaheim Chevy, a member of S.C.O.P.E., and driver of the boat. Skimming over the channel at an average speed of 100 mph with top speeds of 122 mph, the boat made it from the Queen Mary in Long Beach to Avalon Harbor at Catalina in about 15 minutes, Photoglou said.
“The most challenging part as a driver was to read the water, because it lays out in swells,” he said. “So you can go for 10 to 15 seconds flat-out, but if you don’t eyeball and catch the approach of four- and five-foot swells and ease back on the speed to adjust, you will launch 15 feet out of the water at 120 mph.”
Indulging Photoglou’s need for speed wasn’t the reason that Woody Oklejas, owner of Anaheim Chevy, decided to sponsor Fountain’s run from Long Beach to Avalon, then to Newport Beach, then to Los Alamitos, and back to Long Beach for a total of 100 miles.
“Actually, Woody was taking advantage of a great marketing opportunity. Everybody who has powerboats for offshore, lake, and river recreation has to tow those boats to the water,” said Photoglou. “A lot of us feel that Chevy’s combination of the Allison transmission and Duramax diesel technology make for one of the best, most powerful towing vehicles available.”
The Allison-Duramax combination is featured in the very popular Chevrolet 2500 and 3500 Silverado diesel truck series.
The event wasn’t really a race per se – it was a friendly get-together of boating enthusiasts, Photoglou explained, adding that lots of details about S.C.O.P.E., including spectacular photos, can be found at www.scopeinfo.com.
Anaheim Chevy is at 1300 South Anaheim Blvd. For information, call 714-991-3100 or visit www.anaheimchevrolet.com.
