Oh wow, I'm convinced. I think I'll sell off my collection and live or die based on the whim of a criminal. Are you on dope?
If you don't want a gun don't buy one. Better yet, buy a comfy set of kneepads instead. That way if someone invades your home you can offer to blow them to save your life and minimize rug-burns on the knees.
Swallow those anti-gunner tainted facts if you want...sounds to me you're into swallowing.
A man with a gun is a citizen, a man without is a slave.

Thank god for self protection. If it wasn't for that there would be one more criminal alive if we didn't have a gun to protect ourselves when needed.

Your Kimber is an excellent choice. I have a 5" barrel Kimber Custom shop that has a 3.5 lb trigger, Wilson ambi safety's and a high rise beaver tail. I have around 10,000 rounds through it and it runs great. Won the Georgia state single stack championship with it and hadn't shot it in a year. I keep a JP Enterprise AR 15 with a C-More laser scope on it just in case the Kimber won't reach out and touch a criminal.... Also the Wilson 870 12 gauge is very nice home defense.... Any weapon is excellent if you are comfortable enough to use it and understand what to do should it fail you. We've been down to Thunder Ranch in Texas for several classes and it really helps with the shooting, plus I love shooting USPA. Shooting is like eating potato chips, you just can't stop at one shot or chip.

I think his point is having the gun and knowing what to do in a high stress, probably sudden, half aslep moment with a life and death decision to make in an instant are 2 seperate things.
Yes, I am firm in having mine. Has anybody been in that situation? I would love to hear the story. Sure somebody has one.
Training on intruder encounters, identifying targets and actual threats is a MUST!!
Do you think you or your wife are going to instantly get the drop on a violent intruder? A person that has snuck in while you are asleep? It is possible, but the odds are not in your favor.
Those stats are probably close, I don't know.
Please! Get training and refreshers. Have drills every so often. It may save your life. Available at most local police, gun shops , or private consultants.
I know it makes you feel safe having the gun, but you will be better prepared with training and practice.

My home defense is a Benelli M1 Super 90
http://www.sniper.nnov.ru/img/foto/gun/benelli_m1s90.jpg
I have the pistol grip version with recoil reducer. One of the nicest guns you'll ever shoot.....if you like being able to put all of the shells in the air before the first one hits the ground...:D
I feel sorry for you Californians, I have so much stuff that you cannot own and I don't have to worry about walking around with it. Even my wife owns an AR15 and she is LA born and bred, didn't like guns until she met me and I took her shooting. Over a period of time she grew to enjoy the experience and has even won at a turkey shoot using one of my Remington 1100 12 gauges. (she's 4'11", 98#)
My home defense options are numerous, I built a shotgun on an 870 Police platform and made adapters for the AR15 grips, (before this became popular), and collapsible butt stock. Made an adapter for a full length Picatinny rail, have an Eotech holographic sight and flip up iron sights for back up. Extended mag with 6 shot side saddle, changed the forend and ball milled it for grip, machined out the receiver for an over sized release and added a jumbo safety and single point sling.
Carry guns vary but my favorite is one of my Colt CCO's.
Full auto? Yep, we have it...
I also have numerous older weapons as a result of having my C&R license, UPS man turns up at the door with what ever I order along with at least a couple of thousand rounds of appropriate ammunition for that particular purchase. Those things are great for a SHTF back up as they are extremely accurate and very forgiving. Bury them in the back yard if you have to and wait. :D
Best form of home defense is to have a plan, know your situation and plan accordingly. Talk to your family, set up your safe areas and have your weapons at the ready. Make sure everyone is properly trained in handling the weapons and understands how to evaluate a threat. Seek proper training, that should include the use of flashlights, have them at the ready always, choose them carefully, big is bad.

The statistics of those who avoided becoming a victim by either banishing a weapon or using in self defense are staggering. In the un-perfect world we live in owning a gun and knowing how to use it is as important as knowing how to drive a car.

Yep... It was 2 am, I was home alone, husband was working with the studios over night. I woke up to the blinds moving in the back slider door. NOTE: My English Bull Terrier slept through the entire thing... I peeked out the bedroom door and saw a man coming in the livingroom, so I grabbed the shotgun out of the closet and cocked it.....he heard it and ran back out the door. I do know how to use it but I was very glad the sound of it made him run out the door to where ever it was he came!!!

Winchester slugs/00 buck run an average of a buck a round down here.
Go with Winchester, proven time and again (over 500 effective stops in last 15 years in my shop alone)
I"ve fired well over 15,000 rounds of their ball/Duty JHP loads/ 3000 00Buck/ 2000 slugs and have had less than a handful of ammo related issues (all were pistol ammo).
You can get it many places, Dooley Enterprises (maker of jet boat scoops) is a major distributer for Winchester.

Benelli M1 Super 90 is an awesome shotgun one of the finest in my opinion. Fastest cyclical rate of any shotgun.
However, it is cumbersome and not practical for home defense especially for a woman. A nice revolver is better suited for anyone it never jams and easy to handle.
Versus an auto pistol or shotgun most people may forget to rack the slide or push the button to feed the shotgun. Whereas the revolver is always at the ready. For those that argue over capacity ie... 6/7 in a revolver let's face it after the first round goes off in the house both you and the intruder are gonna shit.

It's easy to say your gonna blow a hole in someone but extremely hard to do so. Their is something inherent in us which holds us back from killing another human being---unless your trained out of it or have done it before it is really hard to overcome. Even getting close will make most people puke their guts out.

I haven't been trained to do it and I hope I am never put in that position, not something I would look forward to. But I know this: If someone is crazy enough to break into my house while my family and I are in it, they are crazy enough to harm or kill us. They will die before I have to find out what their intentions are and if I puke I'll do it over the their dead body.

Who's to say the guns that are "pre ban" assault weapons posted are'nt properly registered.
Any LEO that comes in contact with the owners in the field can find out via computer Automated Firearms Index records through CLETS if the person has it registered.
Here's another fact for ya:
There's less than 30 LEO's in Ca. that look for illegal guns exclusively. Only ONE police dept. that has it's own gun unit. The rest are Ca. Dept. of Justice and ATF.

Yeah, what he said. The cops (90+ % at least) don't have the foggiest idea what's legal or not.
Earlier this year my house was robbed and a bunch of guns stolen. As I'm rattling of a list of all what's missing I get to SKS, Chinese paratrooper, and the sarge, not just a beat cop, but the sergeant says "what were you doing with an SKS, don't you know those are illegal?" He tried to argue, but with as much tact and deferance as I could muster I corrected him.
Not only that, when the ATF came out to investigate the agent tried to tell me that by selling 4 of the guns on my c&r list to private parties I'd violated the law. I said okay, went and got my "state laws and published ordinances book" and pointed out his error. He never really said he was wrong, merely said "yeah but I bet THE STATE would disagree. About a week later the agent actually called me at work to tell me he'd spoken to a buddy at California DOJ/firearms division about it and I was right.
How can the local leo's in Ca know the laws? There's so many of them I'm not at all surprised they get confused!

Vang comp is now part of Scattergun Technology Inc. I found out when we got clearance to carry our own shotguns. Scattergun will have a lot of parts on my new duty 870.
ATF is federal, they only work in conjunction with State DOJ.
Only civilian on these boards that knows his stuff on all firearms laws is 77 charger. He could walk right in to my old unit and know what was what. Cdog is up on his stuff too.
Firearms laws are very tricky. A case can range from an infraction to a felony based on very minute issues.
The state DOJ posts all Ca. laws on it's website.

Hey. Thanks for the complement. I'm always an advocate of safety and responsibility with firearms. We are blessed with the 2nd amendment in this country and I do what I can to teach people the correct way to handle themselves with their firearms. The laws in Ca are tricky and in many ways unconstitutional. That said I think it's best to stay within the legal envelope. "Know your rights". Joe Strummer.:D

Now the next step for all you 2nd amendment supports is a concealed weapon permit. Got mine last year, I go no where without my Glock 23c .40s&w. I can carry in every state but Nevada.

I don't think NY is recognizing it. Might be covered in 49 states.

That's all it generally takes. Just a good racking sound.

Nah,
NY recognizes the law, they can't stop fed. law. It's for Ca. 830.1P.C. members.

The state DOJ posts all Ca. laws on it's website.
scattergun is owned by wilson combat( they own part of them)...
