Looks like those little life jackets dont stay on too well. On another note, just because the helicopter has the camera on you, you dont need to try and overdrive your sh*t.

Is that the windshield that broke off and was flying through the air after the water came over the bow?
Gnarly.

I think it was those little life jacket scarfs people wear.
EDIT: Watching it closer, 1/2 of the windshield was gone.

Four injured in Boat Week wreck
Staff reports

DESTIN — At least four boaters were injured Friday when their cigarette vessel crashed during the Emerald Coast Foundation’s Boat Week celebration.
The boat was “running approximately 70 mph” near East Pass when it “hit a wake, went airborne and hit on the port side” just after noon, said Lt. Mark Hollinhead with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
“That speed is certainly related to the accident,” he said.
One passenger, Lyvonnica Green of Freeport, was flown to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola with an apparent cracked pelvis, Hollinhead said.
At about 6:30 p.m., he said hospital officials were “shipping her to Birmingham” because she had internal bleeding.
However, Green was still listed in critical condition at Sacred Heart at about 8 p.m.
The boat’s owner, Jon Fiegel of Niceville, and two others were taken to Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast in Santa Rosa Beach and treated for less serious injuries.
An official at that hospital said the patients probably stayed briefly in the emergency room before they were released.
Destin firefighters using a boat rescued the boaters from the water, put them back in their vessel and escorted it to Coast Guard Station Destin.
Okaloosa Island Fire Department Capt. Michael Howard said one of the boaters was “in and out of consciousness” when firefighters responded at 12:37 p.m.
A helicopter above the scene captured the crash on video, so investigators “didn’t have to reconstruct this one,” Hollinhead said.
That video was not available late Friday.
It does not appear that alcohol was a factor in the wreck, said FWC spokesman Stan Kirkland.
All of the boaters were wearing life vests because Boat Week rules require it, Hollinhead said.
“They really push safety, and it helps. This is a good example of that.”

They got lucky, lots of talk about it on OSO. General consensus is that he's driving too fast for conditions along with being over timmed. Looks like he trying to lay down some speed for the helo.
Driver error.......

If you know what you're doing they can fly level and land just fine. Trying to make the cover of Poker Runs America is not wise:eek:

When I saw that begining of the video you could see he was overtrimmed--- way to positive. The driver also had a full load and when that happens inexperience tends to have you overtrim to gain speed due to the increase in the weight.
Very common mistake with people who do not regularly run with a full load at speed.
As far as the helicopter being a factor I would absolutely agree---however in fairness to the driver he just wants to showcase his boat for the camera. If you have any questions go look at the Apache 69 race video when they know the camera is on the crew is pushing it---they did the same thing and they are professionals.
Let's face it--- not a lot of people have a camera helicopter following their boat.
I loved the video:D :D I wished the camera man stayed on it after the landing. Plus, the video went from nice boat run by amateur to highlight film:D :D of what not to do while being filmed on numerous forums.

Ouch! That had to hurt....
Jon Fiegel called it “a freak accident.”
His Sunsation power boat went airborne after hitting an “irregular wave set” at about 70 mph last week in a run on East Pass.
When it slammed back into the water, the impact punctured Fiegel’s eardrum, fractured his back and cracked a passenger’s pelvis in three places.
“It’s power boating — no different than dirt biking or skydiving,” he said. “There’s risks.”
It was the second consecutive year a boat crashed at the Emerald Coast Foundation’s Boat Week celebration. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Lt. Mark Hollinhead said the two wrecks were nearly identical.

I'm surprised nobody flew out of the boat. You can see one person get pretty airborne, but manage to stay in.
It looks like a few life vests, few swimsuits and the window trim all flying around behind the boat after the impact.
What an assclown! Lucky nobody died, and learned a tough life lesson. I can't believe he kept into the throttle like that, there were at least 2 other rough landings and off camber hits before this one. Shoulda pulled out 60 seconds sooner.....
