I'm a history teacher, not an English teacher, but my limited understanding of the English language is that:
"Familiar" is present tense, "familiarized" is past tense.
So one would say "I am familiar with . . . "
and "I have been familiarized with . . . "
You can tell her I'm an English teacher if you want :p I have taught it, I just wouldn't go so far as to call myself one.
