TO THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH JOE ARPAIO:
HE IS THE MARICOPA ARIZONA COUNTY SHERIFF AND HE KEEPS GETTING ELECTED OVER AND OVER
THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY:
Sheriff Joe Arpaio (In Arizona)
Who created the " Tent City Jail":
He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them. "It costs more to feed our police dogs than our inmates. The dogs never committed a crime, and they're working for a living," Arpaio said.
He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails. Took away their weights, and cut off all but "G" movies.
He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city projects.
Then He Started Chain Gangs For Women
So He Wouldn't Get
Sued For
Discrimination.
He took away cable TV Until
He found out there was A Federal Court Order
That Required Cable TV For Jails.
So He Hooked Up The Cable TV Again
Only Let In The Disney Channel And The Weather Channel.
When asked why the weather channel
He Replied,
So They Will Know
How Hot It's Gonna Be
While They Are Working ON My Chain Gangs He Cut Off Coffee Since It Has Zero Nutritional Value. By eliminating the estimated 5,000 cups of coffee served daily to 5,400 inmates, it was estimated that the county would save $94,000 a year.
When the inmates complained, he told them, "This Isn't
The Ritz/Carlton.
If You Don't Like It,
Don't Come Back."
He bought Newt Gingrich's lecture series on videotape that he pipes into the jails.
When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by a Democrat, he replied that a democratic lecture series might explain why a lot of the inmates were in his jails in the first place.
More On The Arizona Sheriff:
With Temperatures Being Even Hotter
Than Usual In Phoenix
(116 Degrees Just Set A New Record),
The Associated Press Reports:
About 2,000 Inmates Living In A Barbed-Wire-Surrounded Tent Encampment
At The Maricopa County Jail Have Been Given Permission To Strip Down To Their Government-Issued Pink Boxer Shorts.
On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on their bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached
138 Degrees
Inside The Week Before.
Many Were Also Swathed In Wet, Pink Towels As Sweat Collected On Their Chests And Dripped Down To Their PINK SOCKS.
"It Feels Like We Are In A Furnace,"
Said James Zanzot,
An Inmate Who Has Lived In The TENTS for 1 year. "It's inhumane."
Joe Arpaio,
The tough-guy sheriff
Who created the tent city and long ago started making his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic
He said Wednesday that he told all of the inmates: "It's 120 Degrees In Iraq And
Our Soldiers Are Living In Tents Too,
And They Have To
Wear Full Battle Gear,
But
They Didn't Commit Any Crimes,
So Shut Your Damned Mouths!"
Way To Go, Sheriff!
Maybe if all prisons were like this one
There would be a lot less crime and/or repeat offenders.
Criminals should be punished for their crimes - not live in luxury until it's time for their parole, only to go out and commit another crime so they can get back in to live on taxpayers money and enjoy things taxpayers can't afford to have for themselves.

If you want to get really technical, the outpouring of settlements that Maricopa County taxpayers are paying to offset all the money that Sheriff Joke and his good ol' boy crew are saving us with his no cable, no porn and all the other bullshit that he's cut out, he's really not saving us any money. He's a full blown media hooker. If he was on here, he'd outpost Mygurl 3 to 1 and have even more posts about how many posts he has. :notam:

Holy Sxxt! I agree with Jordy. Everything this guy does is aimed at the media. Not saying some things aren't good, but every time you turn around he's on the news. If the man was truely trying to do something for the good of the community, he wouldn't be looking for the cameras. :jawdrop:

Good point, I've often thought that myself. That being said he's a master of getting free press. He reminds me of Reggie Fountain, infact they look like they could be related.

All Sheriffs are media whores. They're elected officials. It's how they keep their job, fooling the weak minds of their county, and selling their souls to politicians. They get on the news and tell you what a fantastic job they do, and people believe it. Most of them weren't good cops, and some of them were never cops. That being said, I don't have a problem with making county less comfortable. :D

I will have to respectfully disagree, there are still a few good people out there. Our local sheriff is a very good law enforcement officer. He use to to be in charge of the whole state for it. He took a pay cut to run for Sheriff. You can walk up to this guy anywhere and he's no different than you and I. He has been reelected twice, and the loyalty he has from his department is very humbling. There are quite a few from APD, which is city, that are trying to jump ship and go to the county. The thing that got me with him is that he still patrols, three shifts a week. I give him alot of credit, he actually cares about the community. And best of all, he tells it like it is! :D

Sheriff's pettiness costing county taxpayers once again
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office gets into a petty fight with a local newspaper, fails to comply with Arizona's public-records laws, and guess what?
Predictably, a lawsuit is filed against Sheriff Joe Arpaio, and county taxpayers are on the hook for the attorneys' fees and legal costs racked up to defend such abhorrent behavior.
The truly ridiculous thing is that the long-running court battle - expected to reach the Arizona Supreme Court - could have been avoided if a newspaper organization hadn't been removed from an e-mail distribution list for press releases.
Yeah, press releases. Can you believe it? It's information that goes out en mass to newspapers, radio stations and television stations.
Arpaio and crew got into a legal tangle with the West Valley View, a Southwest Valley newspaper because, after being yanked from that distribution list, the View requested print copies of those same press releases being sent out.
The requests were ignored. Not once. But twice.
To be sure, we're not talking about supersecret documents or the identities of undercover deputies - just your run-of-the-mill press release about the latest drug bust or animal programs that Arpaio wants to promote.
The reason for the arbitrary exclusion?
Capt. Paul Chagolla, a spokesman for the Sheriff's Office, said in court documents: "I'm not going to put you in the (e-mail) list because it's my prerogative to do so."
And he's right. Nothing in the law says the View has to be on the list to automatically receive electronic versions of press releases. But it's not the sheriff's prerogative to ignore formal public-records requests for that same information. It doesn't matter how tough he is. The agency should give equal access to media outlets, even the ones he doesn't like.
His charge is to enforce the law, and we know he takes that seriously. Yet, he's being selective about which state laws apply to him?
Whether it's about Arpaio being contrary or trying to be heavy-handed, this is a petty fight. So far, two courts have agreed. "The record fully supports the Superior Court's observation that the refusal of the Sheriff's Office to reinstate the newspaper to its list of e-mail news release recipients was 'petty,' " states the 20-page Court of Appeals opinion.
Arpaio lost the first case filed last year in Maricopa County Superior Court and lost again this year when the Court of Appeals upheld the lower court's ruling. The appellate court went further, ordering the Sheriff's Office to pick up the newspaper's legal fees - about $43,000 and counting.
This fight boils down to the sheriff not getting publicity with the spin he wants from the West Valley View.
We urge Arpaio to drop this nonsensical fight, stop throwing away public money and add the newspaper to the e-mail list. That won't cost anything . . . other than a little pride.
The court opinion said it particularly well: "It would obviously be simpler, more professional, and less costly for all involved (including Maricopa County taxpayers) for the (Sheriff's Office) to, with a few keystrokes, add the West Valley View to its e-mail distribution list."
The sheriff ought to end his pettiness now and take the court's words to heart.

He is a one man media circus and not very effective at getting the real job done. Most of the agencies in Maricopa Co did not support him in the last election including most of his own organization.
The last election was pretty close and he nearly lost. He won because most citizens fail to look beyond his marketing campaign of chain gangs, a tank, pink underwear and bologna sandwiches. As far as his leadership, crime, and an effective organization, it does not exist.

WOW, so I guess he is a bad thing for the county? Glad this got straightened out, I was under the impression that he did good things. Hopefully they can get him defeated and get all the things back that the inmates deserve.
And maybe they can O.J. as the spokesman for the inmates!!!

From what I have read it is actually pretty high. Crime is high here anyway and contiues to go up. In addition, he can't get staffed and has so many unfilled sheriff openings to one point it delayed the opening of a new multi-million dollar prison over a year. He has now lowered the educational requirements to "GED" to be a sheriff prison guard he is so desperate to get people to work for his organization. I can tell you I needed them at my place once as I caught a guy on my property (7 acres) and the Deputy was a condescending POS. So was the dinosaur that pulled my wife over for going 35 in a 25 in our neighborhood.
When you pass the chain gang on the highway by my house you will see a parade of equipment and taxpayer manpower to include road signs announcing "Sheriff JOE'S chain gang", a Sheriff's School Bus, with Porta potty towed behind it and a Sheriff SUV with 4 or 5 guards. All this cost and equipment to have 10-15 guys pick up a few bags of trash and let me tell you they are not working. It cost about $25 a bag to pick it up but for him that is cheap publicity. Private contractors can do it for $5 a bag one report said. Bottom line he is a dinosaur that has lost focused and can't run a real crime fighting and incarceration organization.
