Look clearly and objectively at what they want, and yes, they are.
If not Communist, at minimum, anti-capitolist/socialist.
IAMAW 1995-2006. Never again.

Hmm, seems that having a worker charge whatever the market will bear is a capitalist idea.
Seems also that having workers join together to form a union is an inevitable result of capitalism.
It is true that various communist and socialist (govt.) leaders bragged about what they had accomplished for the ordinary worker.
But that is a far cry from private unions 9(vs. govt. policies).;)

just because teachers, cops, firemen, and such think they serve a noble cause, does not mean they aren't as bad or worse than the uaw.
isn't that right comrad?

I don't care what cause whether noble or not, that you think we serve, we are still entitled to fair wages and benefits and the only way we get those fair wages and benies is through our union. One other point about public safety unions, we can not go on strike, so the only way we gain any type of leverage is politically.
Remember the UAW is on strike, public safety does NOT have that option.

the leverage you have is to not be in that field. business owners from the hot dog stand owner to the "big three guys" is to make $ or shut down. from what i have seen, people that think like you have not owned any kind of bussiness. try it for a while and then post what you have learned. no one makes people be cops, teachers or any public servent. if nobody signed up for these jobs the pay would go up. duh!
i grew up watching the hardest working people i have ever seen paying the wages of the liberal wienies in the public fields.
bunch of cry baby commies!

Good 'ol Walter P. Ruether was at the forefront of the nationwide union attempt to hijack the government by striking war production facilities and coal mines during the first six months of 1940. While the British barely held on while waiting for desperately needed military goods the CIO bragged they would keep industry shut down until they got what they wanted.
It wasn't the last strike during WWII, either. The unions shut down production in war production facilities several other times during the duration.

That right there might be the first problem. Subjectivity reigns supreme among the "entitled".;)

Hey kamguy,
keep dreaming in whatever little town you live in that the day we stop coming to work, the wages will increase. Try an all out field day on robberies, assaults, murder, rape in all major cities. Now maybe you live in some shelter in the backwoods and that idea excites you, but for those of us in reality, we know better. Yes, we took the job, and the associations of public safety personnel are there to protect us from the our own management and or the public who file unjust lawsuits against us from time to time as we do our jobs.
As for owning a buisness, yes, done that before I joined up and currently work a side job for a small construction business. I've learned a lot about the construction industry/private sector, and what it takes to succeed.
Kamguy, what I've posted for the third time on this little piddly ass boat site in as many days is this:
Public safety unions are in existence for a much different set of issues than most unions. You have'nt the least bit of understanding about what they are from reading with your post. Nice knee jerk reaction.
Try sending a PM if you want to get schooled up on the subject, or better yet, cry foul and keep tossing peanuts in the gallery like a another care free, ignorant boater.

You are obviously one of the elitists that has never had to work for a living. You don't have an f'n clue about the public sector. Being part of a union that looks out for my rights does not make me a communist. Instead of naming this thread union members are communists, you should have named it DICTATOR after your elitist attitude.DUH!

I remember before we brought the Union in,,
Inflation was 23% and we got a 1% raise.
You'd be told to hold over your shift 8 hours, and instead of being paid overtime, you were told to stay home the next days shift instead to keep you under 40 for the week. Over 8 in the day didn't count for overtime then.
They'd do that stunt all the time with your weekends too. It sucked.
A dim witted custodian got his family on the TV show Family Feud.
He put in for time off and was denied.
Then our superintendant calls the shows producers and said his family could make the taping instead.
If you got hurt on the job, expect a big effort to get you fired.
The list was endless.
We handed out union cards, all but 6 out of 172 employees voted the union in at my location alone.
Those 6 anti union voters quit & went to work at non-union Hanford Nuclear power plant.
They were all on the same shift at Hanford for about two years.
Then suddenly, they all were fired for a tagging error while isolating a domestic drinking fountain water supply line.
Nothing at all to do with the operation of the plant.
They lost their retirements, homes,, a lot.
Bringing in the Union was the best vote I ever cast.
I asked the head of our Union local, Brian De Arcy: "if it bothers him that World leaders who shared his political views are all mass murderers?"
He replied "No.
Ya take the bitter with the sweet."
I look at it like my job benefits and working conditions have nothing to do with his jaded take on life.
He's a skilled negotiator that made my life a lot more palatable.
If he thinks Castro is a good dude,, that's his mis-guided philosopy.

I disagree, communism is defined by the distribution of property equally or holding property and assets in a common ownership.
A labor union is formed to collectively bargain over wages, working conditions and benefits. A labor union doesn't give any members of the union equal rights to common property or assets held by the union or the employer.
The comparison you're trying to make is not well thought out except for the entertainment value. ;)

I believe his comparison was more of that wages are equal across workers, be they skilled and hard working, or napping on the roof. The socialist "all's equal" thing. I think it does have merit as a comparison.

While I had my share of interesting experiances with a union, I found the title of this thread way over the top. I believe kamguy's business involves supplying camshafts to General Motors which make his point even more confusiing.
In the past, kamguy always seemed to be a good guy. Maybe he just needed to vent

I'd like to post it but I suggested we go to PM's in the first as I've been looked down upon in the past for being "too confrontational" on this site. That and the fact this is pretty non boat related, so I have to give the guy his privacy.
I got my point across, the ending of the dialogue, was, just, unusual. I"ll leave it at that.

Okay, so the guy supplies camshafts to GM?
Gee, LAPD is looking at Impalas and Chargers for their next patrol cars. Most likely, our penny pinching city staff will opt for the cheaper, less powerful Impalas. That equals at least 2-3 THOUSAND GM cars (camshafts). I guess mr. kamguy should really be mad he's going to make a profit from communists like police departments/LOL.

I would guess if they're on strike, they're not ordering camshafts. Therefore, he's anti-union. I don't understand why his dad wants to beat everybody up though.
Anti-union is one thing. Stating "Union Members Are Communists" is another. I keep forgetting that this is HB :D :D

The unions Slink and I work for give up more time as you gain years on the job. Being you're probably the average ***boat.net age of over 45, and the fact we are both under 40, we'll be at your time off hours when we get to your age, maybe more.
