Were starting to cast our own blocks to build brand new engines. Anyone have any input on what engines may have a good market to start producing. We have been doing new engines for Jeeps for the militarys, starting to look at the cadillac 4.1, 4.5, 4.6 and 4.9 liter engines. Any other popular hard to get engines you guys may think would be good....

The biggest gripe I've heard in the past are the GM big blocks in stock sizes like 454, 396.
Couldnt get them in the New casting Goodwrench version.
Don't know if that's changed, but they wern't avail about 10 years ago.
That's why you occasionally see a used MoHo sold with a Mercury Marine engine in it.
You could still get the NEW long/short big blocks from Merc.
New is better than rebuilt any day in my book. Well worth the extra expense.

those are a dime a dozen now. Well maybe not a 396 but who would want that when the chevy crate 454, 502 or 572 would drop right in?

We serviced a few Granny Flats that were over 200 units.
Over 200 units uses a lot of hot water. Pool heating, laundry, showers, cafe dishwashing ect. Vast quantities of hot water.
So,, it's far more economical to generate their own electricity, and use the waste heat for all the hot water needs. Save boats loads of cash this method.
The generator sets that do this typically used Ford 460 Marine/industrial motors, and do not lend themselves well to converting to a different motor.
Trouble is, Ford no longer makes the Marine/industrial 460 and it we always had to change out with re-built.

This is a WAG, but look at stuff that is pretty expensive and/or stolen, like the Acura engine the tuners put into a Civic.:)
