I have an old laptop that I dont use anymore. Is there anyway I can delete all the files on it and put it back to stock?
I would like to leave this one at the house on the desk but dont want all my personal info/documents avialable to anyone.....all this stuff is already been transfered to my new one.

if you want to completely delete the files a low level 3 pass format. most hard drive manufactures CDs have the low level format utility. Just boot from the cd.
If you're not too worried about it just a standard format and reload of the operation system will do the trick !
Have fun

ummm,,, Remove Hard Drive from the computer and place on a flat hard surface... Smash with hammer ,, buy new drive and install..
That's the easy method :D
Google results for Low Level Format Utilities (http://www.google.com/search?q=Low+level+format+utility+&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a)
:edit: if you're not computer savy, the low level format process can prove difficult and requires basic DOS knowledge. and if the process is interrupted before it is finished it can destroy the drive. If the information on the drive isn't too sensitive then just a format and reload of the operating system. I will assume you're running one of the Windows Flavors.. if you're using XP just insert the XP cd into the CD rom drive and reboot.. and follow the instructions. It will give you the option to format the drive as the install begains..
Good Luck

Yes it will delete everything permanently. If you don't have a Windows CD then your stuck whith what you have... which version Windows is the machine currently running ? I may have a spare disk or two here..

Just doing a format will not take the data away fromt he drive. You must do a LO Level format. You can remove data from a drive that has just a reg format. Or again a hammer will also work most of the time.

I know just enough to get me in trouble but a low level format is not as final as some believe. Most will not have the knowledge or tools to recoup information from a low level but if you want to be really sure I would look at other tools. Just me but I am some what anal at times. :o
