View Full Version : Changing Gelcoat on a section of a boat...

Let's say you buy a used boat that is perfect in every way aside that it has a color in it that you don't like. This color happens to be on the front of the boat on both sides and takes up about 1/4 of the side.
Any wild or random guess what it would take to change the color?? :)

They have to grind out the existing material then re gel that section...

It might be cheaper to paint a boat that you want to change the color on.

Call Fiberglass Reformations, they do these type of jobs in the winter months.
They don't grind anything off though, they merely gel over it but it is very
labor oriented. It goes on like real thick orange peel looking, then they sand it down and polish it up. You may end up being able to see the line between
new and old.
Or you could use automotive paint. Alot less sanding but not quite as durable over the years.
Get the right guy to do it and it'lll look great either way.
