I would take a Ford GT over that. The pimp factor alone smokes it. :)

It's too bad that Chevy went the budget route and supercharged a 6.2 LS3 instead ot the LS7. The LS7 is a much better platform with dry sump ect...

I think that the LS3 is going to be nothing to sneeze at. Overall a lot of the advantages of the LS7 are lost when F.I. is added. It would be nice to keep the dry-sump though...
However, it may be easier to just add a turbo or two onto a Z06 for less than $100k, but it would still not be the "SS".

To compare a shelby to a Z06, come on, the z06 would kill it....
Compare it to a standard 2007 corvette would be a better comparison

I would have rather seen it built on the LS7 platform as well, i'd just buy the z06 and put an aftermarket supercharger on it for cheaper than the ss anyway, and not have the gay 'tokyo drift' look

LS7 is a great NA motor.
It's high compression ratio and internals make it a terrible choice for FI.(I would not turbo/supercharge the current Z06.....N20 would be a much wiser desision)
Lets not forget that they have a target price in mind and a forged lower compression LS7 with a 10K blower sitting on top would probably add quite a bit to the price tag.(LS3 is being mass produced)
Lastly the current Z06 is faster than a Ford GT with 500hp. The SS is going to be an absolutely scary car to drive on the street with 650+. I would say that mid 10's at 135+ in the 1/4 are doable on a street tire and 9's with something a little stickier. :D
Get your checkbooks ready.....I would expect 150K+ for the first year

I like the hood, but I dont like the Z06 side scoops at all. They dont fit the rest of the bodywork and just sorta bulge out. They could have been done better. Hopefully they will use different wheels on the SS too. I think for 100K I'd like to have the LS7 also...

I haven't seen anywhere 40K either.
Stock it's a heavy car and the performance is so/so
Here is a video of one with a whipple swap, solid rear axle and a 50shot.

It is identical to the c6r. I looked everywhere for that exact hood for my corvette. I really like the looks of this better then the first spy photo supposedly leaked 8 months ago. The front fenders look great the way they are vented across the top. And the rear decklid is awesome. A great looking car.

You don't think that Chevy is able to put lower compression pistions in an engine they are going to supercharge? What part of the engine would make it a bad choice to supercharge , the titanium rods, the titanium valves, or the dry sump? Sorry don't buy it. Even if you were to take a 70k Z06 and add all the supercharging goodies, that's still a 30K price increase!!!
BTW there are a number of 1000 hp plus ls7 off road cars running around.
Chevy is just trying to do this car on the cheap.
Darrell.

Honestly most of the 1000hp offroad cars are alot closer to 800hp;)
I have been playing with LSX based motors for too long to belive that a mendy robs 40% power. Truth is most of the big name companies over rate there stuff by quite a bit.
You have to have a big enough blower/turbos to support a big cube engine. honestly If I was going to build a new Z06 I would remove the motor (save it for later) and do a forged 346-408 with alot of boost. Plenty of cars making 800+ rwhp with the smaller cubes and a good twin turbo set up.
Not to mention GM won't put turbos on the car as they typically go the Eaton route(This thing needs to be reliable for 100K plus miles). I don't think Eaton "currently" has a twin screw that will make the same kind of power/flow as much air as a huge kenne belle, whipple.
If you do your research you will find that the fastest LSX based cars in the country have better luck with smaller cubes.
Pretty sure the LS7 is 100% hand built and has a price tag of around 15K+ by the time you upgraded the internals upgraded the fuel system and bolted on the blower you are talking about a 25-30K motor that would work just as good as a 15-20K motor.(Now your SS starts at 125K:confused: )
not to mention the new SS is a couple hundred pounds lighter and is made with more compo$ite materials.
Here is a link to the APS website(they build the nicest/most complete turbo kit avaliable)
http://www.airpowersystems.com/products_usa.html
There able to make more power (safely) with the LS2 than the LS7
