Just got off the phone with a bro that lives in Silverado, they got kicked out at 1:30 this morning, they thought they were OK but the wind shifted.....
That town is a recipe for disaster, so many homes so close together...it just sucks, hopefully it does not become an issue.

yeah, not much of an escape route either. I guess they could go up Maple springs to the Main devide and down Skyline into Corona.
I know some people that live there too. Neat place but not for me.

I've heard of this route...........where is it? From the city of Orange, would you take Chapman to this? Where does it end up in Corona?

Get your bike, pack a lunch and I'll show you. :)
There is some sick single track over by Skyline to be had too.

The fire chief just said in a news conference that it looks bad for Silverado!!!

My parents have a bunch of property in William's Canyon which is immediately between Modjeska Canyon and Silverado Canyon. They have issued a mandatory evacuation notice for everyone out there. The news says that there is an immediate threat to williams. :( They have said that they are not going to even try to fight the fire back there. If something is going to go, they are going to let it go.
The problems with the canyons back in there is that the brush is so thick, it is nearly impossible to get around. The canyon has not burnt for over 50 years so people have gotten laxed on weed abatement and cutting down old trees. On some trails, you can not get through because the brush is so thick, it is over 6' tall. :(
Also, with Modjeska, Williams, & Silverado there is only one way in and one way out of each canyon. If the firefighters get back in the canyons and the fire comes around, they are going to be stuck back there with no way out. They have said that the only thing that they will do is to do drops, but they will not try to save anything in Williams. :(
Luckily for us, we don't have anything back on the property that can not be replaced. :) Our attitude is that if it is going to go, so be it. It is insured. However, there are some EXTREMELY nice new homes back there that are in excess of $2-3M. :( We just talked to some owners and they are freaking out. They have pretty much realized that if the fire comes into the canyon, they are going to loose everything. :( Many of them say that they are refusing to leave even with a mandatory evacuation notice. :(
Here are some pictures I have of the place. These were taken in February or March of 2006'ish. This is right back after the rainy season. Imagine this vegitation AFTER a summer of no rain and a lot of heat. Everything that is in the picture that is green is now brown and VERY dry!

Those guys are all working pretty hard to stop it. I saw a huge amount of engines running in there, along with a ton of Air. Those hueys were coming in every three minutes to reload with water, and there were a bunch of them...

If you take El Toro Rd north it will take you to these places and eventually come out in e. Orange. The off shoots put you back in time, they are so rustic and quaint. Steep mtns rim the canyons, beautiful. NSF
