Help me out on this one, I know I can post in the insurance area but i'm sure I will get a quicker response here... Thanks!
26' open bow (mid cabin) Cat w/ 525efi
30' open bow (mid cabin) V w/600sci
Huge difference? I pay $600 a year for a 25' V w/496HO right now.....

Should be no more then $1600 a year, no layup. Depends on boating experience.
30' open bow (mid cabin) V w/600sci
I would like about the same, due to lenght

I checked around before I bought my last boat and it was 1500+ at a few places, some would not even cover me (was under 25 at the time). Ended up with State farm @ $600 a month
I just called State Farm and they said $985 for a 26' cat with 525hp.... Hope they are right... I need to shop around more though... The lady said there was no "cat option" just V hull or "other".
Hmmm

....Not another one of these threads:rolleyes: :D
Heres a simple formula.
Cat= Lots of money
V hull = Not as much money.
Best thing to do= Call an insurance company and get quotes. It will take 5 minutes. LOL

I just got a rough estimate today on a cat vs deck. Roughly $2500 a year for a 08 28' cat with an HO, no layup with full value replacement. I was told that number could be knocked down a bit by removing/changing some options.

You are getting screwed on that quote big time!

Those numbers aren't solid...like I said I was getting a ROUGH estimate today. It sounded high in comparison to what I've heard about other cats but then again....I was getting a ROUGH estimate....roughly speaking so to speak.

Be careful with StateFarm. My dads next door neighbor is one of the SVP of Underwriting with StateFarm and when I went to insure my boat he told me StateFarm will not write "CAT" or "Cat type (center sponson)" hulls. He said some agent will write them, but then if you have a claim corporate will kick it and your policy will be voided.
I would stay away, not worth it when you look at what you are going to be spending on the boat.
FYI - I have 2 cars, house, umbrella, and 3 personal property bindings with them, and the old boat was with them.

Try BoatUS, but not with the 600, they'll only go 525. I ended up with State Farm, 900, no layup, US Navy Boat Officer PQS/ship driver discount. I didn't ask about cats.
When you shop for a boat you'll try to shop insurance to see what the real deal will be will all the exopenses, I understand that. We tried it too. The problem is one place will insure a cat but not over certain HP, the next thinks a deck boat is a picklefork type cat, and so on, making irt very hard to choose insurance. BoatUS is the cheapest I've found, IF you fit thier criteria. I think the largest enine your cat could have was 25 HP or some ridiculous thing like that. They were looking to insure a sailboat, I was looking to insure a Howard LOL.

Why would anyone insure a umbrella. :D

I'm under a grand a year on a 26' with 500+ HP. Cat would probably double that. Just buy Gary's boat, you're gonna give him an ulcer :D

Singleton, My ultra 26 deck w/496 is insured with Statefarm. They have photos of the boat, spoke with the underwriters and I have it in print (***boat test of my boat) that it does under 70;) Now i'm currently in process of bumping it to a 525 and she said they wouldn't do it with that HP so I am going with another insurance that is about 1350 a year NO layup:) but fully disclosed as I'm not going to expose myself to a liability all to save a few hundred buck.
Swoop, be careful on your quote with Statefarm as my agent researched quite a bit and spoke with underwriting numerous times. They said anything over 500hp with a cat/deck was a no no.

Just for some perspective we had a 29 ft deep v insured for ~$900 per year and we currently have a 28 foot deck insured for ~$800 per year. Both boats had/have a 525. Both boat were/are insured in AZ.
