If you could go back to the begining of your build on your favorite boat, what would you have added, removed (if anything) or completely done differently? What are your "must haves" and what are your "do withouts"?

If money was no option, a Teague 800.
Since I was on some sort of build budget. The only things I would of added at build would be trim tabs and Dana header on the 496HO (getting added this winter). I am happy with everything else.

Trim tabs.
I have a heck of time pulling my kid on a wake board and seeing over the bow at low speed... (28' deck).
Trim tabs

I think I would have "done without" the dual jets... :D

At least you tried to get them to work. Most people just talk the game, you attempted, more then most.

My current project is not my fav boat... but on this build... the one thing I should not have said.
When trying to ID the motor... "its just some big block GM, its a chev or an olds it will be cheap to rebuild" oh boy was I ever wrong...:) Atleast, I can be sure that I will have the only boat on the water with a '65 421 ho pontiac

All Aluminum 498. Move engine forward. Center steering.
Basically put it the way it was when it set the kilo record. :D

I would have gone with turbine power...

Not So Fast
10-25-2007, 06:36 PM
525 instead of 496 and steering, thats about it. I got a blue motor anyway in the end, just not a 525;) Build it once as they say, its never fast enough :( NSF

1) Go longer (have 25', should have 26-28' with 525)
2) Get whole back gelled a darker color (no white) ... exhaust puts out too much grime all the way up to hatch
3) Non-white bi-mini cover (grime hard to clean off it)
4) Add or move cig lighter plug from driver side to passenger side
5) He wants an engine pre-oiler
6) Get ladder on trailer (missed that this was an option)
7) Auto fuel tank changes
Must haves:
a) Stereo that plays ipod
b) Aqua step (use it all the time)
c) Open bow (for her), great for people space, and nothing like that ride in the front, despite the mph loss
d) Bi-mini top (can't take Havasu heat in summer without some shade)
e) Front, back, driver, passenger stereo controls

Lets see if I could start over, First I would start with a project in better repair, cheaper to maintain, and in need of less work, something like maybe the Titanic.:D

Cigalert you nailed all of these first time out. Stick with me son, you'll be just fine! Well, unless you want to shake the money tree in the back yard for a blue motor!!

I didn't build mine from the start. I'm the second owner. I would really like to have a pre-wired intercom for headsets. That's about the only thing I could add. :D

more cooler space. 2 is not enough sometimes

I would have:
insulated the rear ice chest under the bench seat
lose the DVD player (we never use it)
add battery operated fans in the cuddy cabin
add the blue engine:D
upgrade my swim step
add curtains in the front of the cuddy cabin
I-pod friendly stereo
another battery;)
powder coated the rail
lose the table, we never use it
lose the sink, we never use it
I think that is it:D

Love my boat, but if I could change one thing and the decision was all up to me it would be a closed bow. The crawl thru open is nice though at times as well. Next one will be closed bow for sure:)

LOL...In all fairness...the measure of a man is how he overcomes adversity and setbacks...not how he revels in success...:)
On my boat....I would have opted for Twin Turbo EFI 540 versus Roots/Carts Blown 540...

Cole Trickle

I probably should have gone with a deck boat;)
Also I would skip all the powdercoated/anodized steps, rails and cleats. My steps are fading and my cleats are peeling/chipping???
Next boat will have stainless hardware.
Next boat will probably have less stereo...lol:D

Well.........I have a skull on MY boat :D So under your back bench seat are three coolers? That's cool:D  hmmmm what type of wood is in your engine hatch? :D:D:D
Oh, also I would split the back bench seat into to seats. It's hard to pull up the one long one.

Considering what I have into my current mill, I might have opted for a 572 instead. Realistically, maybe a polished intake instead of plain... I'm pretty happy with what I have right now though :D
