...and gals New on these forums, but ive been eavesdropping for a couple weeks now. My wife and I are starting to look for our first boat. So understandably ive got more questions than i can shake a stick at. Ill start with (hopefully) an easy one. Mostly ive been checking boattrader.com as im in norcal and theres not many (read: any) builders up this way. There seems to be a large discrepancy on the asking price on these boats, regardless of make, for boats of the same year and equipment. So my first question would be, is Nada.com a good guage for a price range on any given boat? Ive seen boats already that are more than 10k over the nada value. Is this a normal thing or is the seller just way off on their asking price? Any input is most apppreciated

about your new boat... where will you be using it and what do expect out of it?

i expect the main haunts to be Lakes Shasta, Oroville, Folsom, and Berryessa and then also in the sac delta. I expect 65 and am hoping the wife will let me shoot for 80. Were looking for something in the 22-24' range big block or small block i can throw a blower on, heh even a big block i can throw a blower on.

NADA good idea. Get it??? Little play on words (nada= not a), ooh forget it. Ive seen prices all over the place. Unfortunately, thats what most finance companies use.
What are you looking to spend? What is your wife telling you that you can spend?

Looks like we're trying to stay around 40k but as we look more it keeps creeping up towards 50 (or more). Also, what do you mean by the finance companies? What do they use nada for?

If your buying a used boat the finance company will typically fund a percentage of the boats value.
For example; when my wife and I were looking at buying a used boat my credit union would only finance 80% of the boats NADA value. So if the boat was $40K but the NADA value was $35K I could only finance $28K making me come in with a larger down.
We've dipped our rig several times up in that water (oroville/ folsom). We run in a 24' and hit high 60's only problem with those lakes is you seem to run out of water pretty fast.

thanks for all the welcomes.
If the 30'er is a houseboat i might be able to swing it, id surely have to live in it after selling my house. We're figuring someday we might upgrade to something like that but for now just planning on blowing past anyone in a towboat who thinks theyre fast :)

ok, so basically NADA is a rough guide and not nearly as concrete as kelly blue book is then. This sound about the way I should look at it?

I looked at NADA for my boat yesterday and it was about 20K lower than it should be?
NADA is one thing but looking at boats in the trader or online will give you a real idea of what they are selling for.
Welcome to the board!!:)
