For daytime family time, the aquarium is always educational.

The Monterey Bay Aquarium is a pretty cool place to take the kids-

Maybe take a drive a little north up Hwy 1 to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk-

There's a place called Sly McFly's down on Cannery Row that has live music. I've also been in a place called the Octane or maybe Club Octane that had good music and dancing. Both of those were lots of fun. There's also Schooners that has a pretty good bar and is right on the water, not sure about it's nightlife though.

The aquarium is really neat, there is cannery row, 17 mile drive, a park down off of Del Monte Blvd (close to the wharf) you can rent paddle boats, kayak rental on the wharf, Carmel (Hog's Breath restaurant) There is the outdoor recreation through the Presidio of Monterey (http://www.pom-odr.com/)
Night time, I've heard downtown is pretty fun, haven't had too much opportunity to head down there yet.
Hope that helps! Have fun!!!

Club Octane just changed their managment so don't know how much that has changed things, and Sly McFly's is right near Bubba Gumps!!

Thanks to all for the info....everybody have a Fun & Safe Holiday. Hate to be corny but in reading stuff about other countries, it sure seems like we have lots to be THANKFUL FOR!!!!!!
Let's all take 1 minute of silent prayer at our dinner tables Thursday for the guys & gals fighting for the USA abroad.
Thanks again.-:)

I was gonna make a cross dressing joke until I read that. :D
I second the aquarium and the Boardwalk. There is also a nice wharf next to the boardwalk to go into shops and eateries and such. Also if your into it and it's in season then get a start trap and tie some raw chicken to it and drop it down off the pier and after a while pull it up and have yourself some fresh crab.

Go to Carmel by the Sea and the wineries in the area.

Drive down the coast a bit on HWY 1. Big Sur is nearby. Nice drive. Great places to eat in the area. Beautiful place. If you scuba, the bay has some outstanding beach dives. Water is cold, but you would know that.
Have a safe trip.

Club Octane is alright, there are alot of places around there, the whaling station. Its definetly worth driving to santa cruz for the boardwalk. The tide pools are pretty flippin sweet.

Definately make 17 mile drive it is one of the most amazing drives I've taken. Hopefully you can catch it on a clear day.

Thanks for all the great advice.....stayed at the Hyatt Regency off Sloat....did a killer breakfast joint called "First Awakenings"...totally stuffed us!
Did Aquarium, Giradelli's (sp?), JuGen Sushi on Alvero, some huge cady store in the Cannery...etc, etc.
Good Family fun Thanksgiving.
All the suggestions were great......no f-in way I was gonna dive....air temp was in the 40-50 range and water???????
Gorgeous area...wish there was a nice lake nearby....would be worth buying a condo there!

PS-glass bottom boat sucked.....water looks like pea soup but it does get you WAY close to some big-a$$, lazy Sealions (900 pound) and we saw some Otters cruisin' around on their backs.....good stuff for the kids!
