Hi all,
I'm fairly new here. My folks bought a 1980 26' carribbean daycruiser brand new back in the day. They sold it about 12 years ago. I'm now trying to find another one. If you guys happen to know of one for sale I would certainly appreciate an IM or email.
I have a family of my own now and would like to restore one of these boats for us to vacation at the river on. Knowing how we all like pics, here's a shot of our boat... taken back in the 80's. Thanks for any help you can lend. I'm in Southern Cal.

Nice boat. I choose my boat for the camping ability and jet.
Post in JustJets even though you did not mention drive configuration and you'll get some good feedback.
You may need to be patient.
Good luck

Sorry about that. I thought my email would be available as the registration process asked for it. Here it is: jbunderdahl@cox.net

That's a nice Sleekcraft, Paul. I'd like to stay with the carribbean though. Call it a family legacy :D I'm sure there's one out there somewhere with my name on it.
Thanks,
Jeff

Thanks Jeff, I did almost by a Carribean myself. They have more topside room than most of the daycruisers with still a full bed and couch. Having a window on top lights up the underbow area pretty good. Also its amazing what can be done with gelcoat. I also was looking for a boat to be original with good gel, apholstery can always be replicated. On my Sleekcraft I didnt care for the bow and stearn railings but decided to keep them so the boat would be original.
If you find one "POST PICS" !! Theres afew daycruiser owners on the board.
Theyre bitchen, just keep some essentials on the boat on you never really have to go home.
Keep the board posted of your findings. Good luck.

They are saying it is a 30 footer??? Ask them what it measures gel to gel. The ad says LWL-26ft..?? Did they make a 30????

Paul,
I totally agree with you on all accounts. They are a bitchin boat. I have seen that one in TX, but boy that's a long way to go to look at a boat. I guess the thing I'm not crazy about is that it looks like it "lives" in the water. I was hoping for something that a) lived on a trailer, and b) was closer to home :)
Thanks
Jeff

Try this http://sacramento.craigslist.org/boa/486097439.html 26ft 1979 i/o and it runs $1,000.00 about $20k more, and it would make a nice boat. How do people not take care of their boat.   You have to keep them covered up and dry:mad:

Well that's certainly what I'm looking for. But I must say, I've never seen anything that far gone! Should I be worried about the integrity of the hull and/or the stringers? Where would one even start on a basket case like this?

May not be a basket case. 8K and 160 hrs, it's good as new! :D
From what you described as your target, I'd keep looking and be patient.
It's not everyday, but it's out there.

BTW...what is your Budget?
Time and money to invest?
Do you really want/need a project or should you be looking for somehing turn key?
Just trying to narrow the choices.:D

Good questions. Most importantly I'd like the boat to be complete and unmolested. In other words, all the teak components and cabinets to be there, the interior there, etc. I would for sure refinish everything. But on a boat that old and rare, I'd be concerned about sourcing replacement teak parts, or windshields, etc.
I'll call that guy in the ad listed above. If he has all the parts, then it could be fun project. Frankly, it looks like this boat has sunk!
Budget... oh that's a hard one. At the end of the day, I'm fine with investing 15K or so in this project. I would prefer the starting point to be not as far gone as the one listed above. I have a 1 yr old and 3 yr old, so I'm pretty busy at home, but this would be a labor of love.

I talked to the guy selling the one listed above on Craig's List. It's a total basket case, and the poor guy doesn't know anything about boats. He's only had it 6 months and realized he's in over his head.
The biggest issue I see is that a lot of parts are missing. Bow rail, windshield, all the teak cabinets/components in the cabin, etc. On a boat this old, would it even be possible to source those parts?
I'm thinking I'm going to pass on it. I'll keep waiting. And maybe one of you runs across one too :)

I have a 21" Caribbean I was planning on listing today.
Could this be what you are looking for? 1986 21' Caribbean Empress, Open Bow, 454, Berkley Jet, Electric Place Diverter, It sits on a Competitive tandem trailer. I have stored it indoors for the past 11 years that I have owned it. The gel coat is in great condition for being 21 years old. The interior is also in very good condition for being original. The engine and pump was rebuilt a few years ago by GS Marine in Corona. I don't know exactly what the current horsepower is since the rebuild but it does about 55 mph on the water with one person driving. It has been a great boat for my family but we bought a new one and don't have the space for two boats. It has been unofficially been dubbed the RootBeer Float (Brown Torpedo, Peeking Turtle)and many other names over the years.
Let me know what you think.
Mike

Mike, that is a beauty! If my boys were older, it would be perfect. But at 1 and 3 years old, I'm looking for a larger 25' or 26' with a fully enclosed cabin. I guess I probably should have put that in the title. Oops.
Good luck with the sale!
Thanks
Jeff

Thanks for looking. I will keep my eyes and ears open if I run across a closed bow.:)
