View Full Version : How does one dispose of an old Boat?

Here's the situation. I need this boat gone as I need the side yard clean. Can you just take these to a dump?
Also, if I can take it to a dump, is there documentation that I would then provide to the state of California so they will no longer bill for property tax?

If only you could take it far enough out to sea and blow it up- turn it into a reef :D

CRap! Just make some money. Few ideas:
1) Sink the boat, then ask HB members to pony up some bucks to have it floated, but never do it.
2) Start a timeshare with the boat. Sell weeks of the boat to fellow HB members and family.
3) Start a MLM opportunity and call it a project? Selling broken boats to those in need of a project?
Give me some time, I can think of more!!

I see you are in Claremont. I have seen many boats and rv trailers towed into Puente Hills landfill in one piece. The dozer operators scramble to be the one to crush it. I'm not sure about any paperwork but there has to be something that can be done.:)

This is what I was hoping. Although I set this weekend to saw it into pieces, I'd much rather tow it in whole.
My guess is that after doing this, I'd just have to sign an affidavit to the State telling them it no longer exists.

We do 20 or 30 a year like that. We pull the fuel tanks out before we haul them off. Really cool watching their dozers demolish them.

I took a Southwind jet boat to the dump. Was kinda cool. 2 dozers pinched the transom and I drove the trailer out from under it. Then they pincched it and it exploded in shards, then backed up and crushed it. It was gone in less than a minute. Cost about 40 bucks. They asked for paper work and were supposed to notify DMV that it was destroyed but in typical fashion it didn't happen that way. Had to send them proof (reciept) and then it was dropped.

I had an old inflatable Avon that was beyond patching, a few months ago I got a knife and some really sharp scissors had the whole thing reduced to a pile of rubber in 30 minutes, then just tossed the scraps in the trash.
I kept the HIN, and CF#s so no one could resue them.
Once you have the boat destroyed, you'll need to notify the the DMV in writing, within 15 days and include the Certificate of Number and Certificate of Ownership.
Theres no form for doing this, or at least none I could find.
