I have a check engine light on my 1996 Ford F-350 with a 7.4L Gasser... and I got the codes cause it didnt pass my smog check :mad: :mad: So who knows how to find out what the codes mean... here is what they told me...

Sorry about that i'm upset about the PACKERS. Any who?.. Take the FORD into just about any parts store chain and they will read you codes for free. They hope you will buy the parts there for read'd the codes..

P0171 system too lean bank 1 (rightside)
P0401 Exhaust Gas Restriction insufficient flow
P1443 Evap control system canister purge valve(mechanical)malfunction.
Alex without having the vehicle in front of me i would suggest to start by removing the EGR valve cleaning out the passage ways of any carbon type sludge build up ect.
Make sure they EGR valve is operating properly manually operate the diaphram (vaccum)and or replace it.
Check and or replace the Evap canister purge valve.
Check for any vaccum lines cracked and shoot some brake clean down both
sides of the intake and verify no vaccum leaks around intake.
without having a computer to monitor pids(check pending codes) after doing these things you will have to disconnect the (neg) battery terminal for a minute clear the codes and then drive and see if the check engine light returns.

Since the codes have been givin, I just have to make one small note
7.5 = 460 Ford
7.4 = 454 Chevy
