No...maybe I'm thinking of the wrong movie...it's a yellow boat with a big blown engine...

You are thinking of "The Great Outdoors" I think. The boat in the movie was named "suck my wake".

There is a huge difference between John Cusack and John Candy but an understandable mistake.

I think there is a guy on here that owns it or a replica of it, Roman1 (RomanOne) something like that.
The boat is a Miller.
I do believe there is a thread or 2 about this boat and such.

There are actually 3 different versions of the “Great Outdoors”
The version that was released in the theaters in ’88.
The version they play on TV and the Movie channels.
And the version that you can buy or rent.
I’ll tell you that main difference between the 3 are the boat scenes or rather the comedy of errors related to the boat. The theater version has all of them. While R&B and TV versions are cut about 50:50.

So if I rent it, will I miss much of this boat?? That would be the main reason for watching it again...

Yeah what's the deal with that? Last time I rented it (been a while ago) seemd like it changed from a jet to V-drive or something.

Not sure if its all 100% correct, just what I found on the internet and I posted this up for a friend of mine on another forum. This is about as much as I could dig up on it when I was searching around myself a little while back:
"From what I have found, it was not a jetboat, but a 1972 Miller flatbottom V-drive....
Also found this:
The John Candy boat was a wood deck Miller. I have a brother that used to work at Universal studios and they made the movie. There was 3 built and 1 wrecked in the movie. When he went to work there he found 1 in the back lot where they stored old props, cars, and stuff from old movies. He ended up trading a 68 Chevy 4X4 truck for the 1 they still had there. It was complete less motor. Since it set up on the lot in the weather the wood deck had all come a part, but he thought he could fix it. Well he got into to many projects at home and pulled all the hardware out of it and scrapped the hull. He still has the piece from the boat where "suck my wake" was painted on it. He cut it out framed it.
I know there is more information on it, I just haven't run across it yet. It was on another forum board, but I have no idea what it was. I find it, I'll post it up...."
And this:
"Ok, these are the threads I had in mind....
This one is from V-driveboat.com & even has pics where you can see the 2 different engines: one with a fake blower & the other with a tunnel ram....

This is the thread from ***boat that led me to the Vdriveboat.com thread. According to some posts in this one, the original Suck My Wake was a Schiada wakker boat....

You'll see most of it. I've only seen 2 versions. One version has a short scene where they actually rent the boat & get stuck between two trees on the way out of the parking lot. Thats the TV/movie channel version, cause I have it on DVD & the parking lot scene is not in my movie. I saw it in the theater when it came out, but I don't remember anything extra that might have been in the actual movie version.... I'm sure I was drinking that night, lol. You can read click those links in my other post & get more people's input about it.....:)

A majority of that movie was filmed at Bass Lake and the water skiing was filmed in Big Bear lake.

What is cut out is when they attempt to tow the boat off the lot. The part where John Candy runns the boat up on the launch ramp is still there :D
