Thought I'd share some pics of our boating adventure yesterday....
All I have to say is I sure am glad we own a Cigarette!!
People can talk all they want about big swell (6-8 footers, blah, blah, blah)
We haven't had the Cig out since Sept. and I was dying to get it wet so yesterday was the day!!! Then I checked NOAA and this is what I read
---EAST SANTA BARBARA CHANNEL FROM PT. CONCEPTION TO PT. MUGU INCLUDING SANTA CRUZ AND ANACAPA ISLANDS- 912 AM PST WED DEC 5 2007 ...SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY FOR HAZARDOUS SEAS REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING... .TODAY...NW WINDS 10 TO 15 KT LATE IN THE MORNING...BECOMING VARIABLE 10 KT OR LESS. WIND WAVES 2 FT OR LESS. W SWELL 11 TO 13 FT AT 16 SECONDS.---
Yea, 11-13 foot swells! But I wanted to boat so I said, "F*CK IT!!" Figured we could cruise the harbor if it was too big (which I figued it was).
Went out, cautiously...The worst part was trying to get out of the harbor and past the breakwall with the swells staking up into waves. But once we were outside I just dropped the tabs and quartered the swell. Boat handled flawless. Ran out (against the swell) at 45-50 mph turned around and ran back with it at 60-65 mph with bumps up to 70. Needless to say it was fun (and a little scary). Being down in between swells where you can't see anything but huge walls of water is sureal.
All I could think about was, thank god we're in a big ol heavy cig!
Had a great day though. 70 degrees, nice day in December!
Some pics leaving the harbor...and some at lunch in the harbor.

Or get a Boston Whaler. A stalled motor and a wave over the stern will send any of our fair weather performance boats to the bottom in a hurry, even if they do blast through the swells when they are running right.

Or just get a boat with twins and a little more freeboard. Hell, a ripple in a lake will send a low freeboard boat to the bottom. :)

Dude! Sweet!

Yep they are fair weather boats made only for fun.:D But there are boats that are made for heavy seas and they don't look like any of ours low profile or offshore style...:)

It didn't make the SCOPE calander this year. The last two years fell on days like this (HUGE SEAS) and f*cked it up for some people. You just never know in the winter here. Can be flat as a lake one day and 15 foot swells the next! You want to come up this way though, let us know. We'll go run with you.

Thanks...It's not a new 500+k boat but it suites our needs just fine. And handles big days like above like a dream!:D It's a fun boat.

I see small cats and deck boats cruising the harbor and running along the break wall up here from time to time. I mean, sh!t, it can look like this from one day to the next. The bottom pic was taken off the south tip of Anacapa Island Dec. 05...."Lake pacific" we call it on those days. Not much fun for the Cig though:D

I was at South Mission Beach today around noon, about a dozen guy's were
surfing in the channel it looked pretty cool. Some 6-8 footers :jawdrop: and the sets were back to back fast.

Sweet. We've talked about putting the boat in salt, but we come to our senses quickly. I'll take 837 foot at the waterline aircraft carrier anytime I'm in big water, thanks, but I love seeing how others do it:)

The new harbor is sick! Nice area...Like Sixdays said, you want to stay away from the east and south sides of oxnard...SH!T HOLE!! However, I've grown up in this town and have never had a problem. The sh!t (like with every town) usually stays in a 1 mile radious of itself. As you know from living in Vegas (and havasu for that matter), every town has it's crappy area.;)

Hey Jordy, when the Cig purchase going to take place hmmmm??:D

We sat and had lunch at that new Mexican place next to Vons that over looks the harbor (good food!). You should've strolled up and said hi.

G Hope to see you out this way soon Greg...Congrats on the baby!

That's actually a friend of mine that jumped in the water. We've grown up around these islands and being in the ocean all our lives you kind've "forget" (at least try to) about whats bellow you in the ocean:D
