It's the 60th Annual -- one of the oldest continuous boat racing and water ski competitions in the world -- and it's coming up on Saturday, July 19 in Long Beach. Anybody out there going to watch, or race in it? If you haven't seen it, it's pretty crazy -- about 80 ski teams and mostly big offshore type boats running from Long Beach Harbor to Catalina Island and back (62 miles) with the winner coming across the finish line in under one-hour! The first flight of boats and skiers go off at 8:53am -- best place to watch is the fantail of the Queen Mary or at the Coast Hotel. Don't know if the big Jumbotron screen will be there or not with a live race feed from the helicopters -- it's the best way to watch the race but very expensive -- don't know if the Long Beach Ski Club was able to raise enough sponsor money to cover the cost. Regardless, a fun way to spend a Saturday morning unless you're skiing -- then it's pure hell!
