Can anyone suggest a shop to work on by Indmar 460 Ford engine. This is in a 1980 Taylor SS Jet boat. It is acting like the fuel pump may be failing (or some other problem). The boat is stored in Modesto so a shop in the area would be good. Otherwise I can bring it back to the SF bay area if there are any shops there. Any ideas?
Thanks,
John

The problem I am experencing is at fast speed you can feel hesatation in the engine. At slow speed/idle speed it dies. This just started happening this last trip out. We headed for the dock right away. I tried starting it up again, and it sounded fine but I don't want to risk taking it out on the water until I find the problem. It is acting like my car did when the fuel pump was going out, you have to give it a lot of gas to keep it going.
Thanks

John, you might want to give Walt At Walts ***boat in Modesto a call. 209-521-WALT He's pretty busy but might be able to help you out. Jethro

It could be as simple as a plugged fuel filter. Have you checked that out? I had some similar problems recently and changed the filter. Now it's fine.

The fuel filter is transparent and it looked okay at a distance. I will check it out when I get out to Modesto in a few days (its about 1 1/2 hours away). There is too much traffic tomorrow to check it out. I will take a look at the fuel pump as well.
I tried calling Walt's but he only works 10-2 three days a week (according to his awnsering machine). He never did call back.
Thanks for all the ideas.

Fuel filter elements can be clogged over time just from tiny stuff in the gas or chemicals in the gas itself. They don't have to appear clogged to be so. I've experienced this on more than one occation. Also as a side note, most the transparent type fuel filters really aren't that safe for marine use under an engine cover. Plastic can crack with heat and glass can break. Just a suggestion for safety.
