Just checking to see how many people knew that ***boat.com was up as opposed to the .net that has been confusing people for a while now

Funny thing though. It still says that the data is bein' transferred from ***boat.net while the homepage says ***boat.com. I'm so confused! But ya'all knew that already; didn't ya? :p

It is the same IP address for both. Might be the cause. Doesn't do that for me though.

Just out of curiosity, why would you change from ***boat.net to ***boat.com? There's really no benefit to it that I know of. Once your presence on the www is established, you're there. Why all the changing?

I've watched this issue closely so that the links from my site work accordingly. As soon as the ".com" started working, I switched the links to reflect that. As far as my own personal bookmark in my browser though, I'm still using ".net". Even though ".com" was working for me, I never remained logged in.

Why all the changing? A ".com" is typically associated with a business or company, while a ".net" is typically associated with a network or infrastructure.
Standard US Domain Extensions
.com - To be used for commercial and personal sites.
.net - Recommended for companies involved in Internet infrastructure.
.org - Recommended for not-for-profit organizations.
.biz - Restricted to commercial or bona fide business purposes.
.gov - US Federal Government
.edu - Education/College/University
.mil - US Dept. of Defense
There are literally thousands of domain extensions including one for each country.
For Example, Just To Name A *Few*:
.AC - Ascension Island
.AD - Andorra
.AE - United Arab Emirates
.AG - Antigua and Barbuda
.AI - Anguilla
.AL - Albania
.AM - Armenia
.AN - Antilles
.AP - Asia Pacific
.AQ - Antarctica
.AR - Argentina
.AS - American Samoa
.AT - Austria
.AU - Australia
.AZ - Azerbaijan
.BA - Bosnia and Herzegovina
.BB - Barbados
.BE - Belgium
.BF - Burkina Faso
.....and the list goes on!
Not sure if this helped, but hopefully you get the idea. :)

"Kitty's Korner"....Lesson Of The Day! :D
"Downtime" is to be expected when a company *rearranges* a website or messes with domains.
This also creates "job security". *wink*
I'm sure once ***boat.com gets all the "wrinkles" ironed out, it'll be smooth sailing from there! (Keeping my fingers crossed!) :D

just curious ***boat. When you first registered, was ***boat.com taken at the time or did you just choose .net at that time?

Mandelon

Yes, it was. He said some Russian guy had registered it.

Why all the changing? There is a huge benefiter to .com over .net. About two years ago someone told me to check something out on the ***boat site. I typed in www.***boat.com (http://www.***boat.com) and came to a page that immediately tried to install something on my computer. I used to get a bunch of phone calls about this. Even when I told people to go to ***boat.net they would type in .com and wonder why it did not work.
***boat.net has not gone away, you can still type it in and get to the site. We were losing a portion of traffic by not owning the .com.

I can understand the .com being mor popular, especially to less educated users, but why the big fuss about it? Just get it and redirect it. Simple as that.

Yeah, I kinda knew all that since I sorta have a LITTLE knowledge in the field, but that don't answer my question still.... Well, I think what the Mr. ***boat, WebDesigner Guy was trying to point out is that the public, in general, (not geeks like us) are mostly familiar with .com's ...not .net's, etc.
So, when they would run home after hearing about Hot Boat "the company", and even *after* being told the URL was www.***boat.net, (http://www.***boat.net,) they would automatically type in www.***boat.com. (http://www.***boat.com.) and obvioulsy end up at the Russian dudes irritating website.
I guess its Hot Boat's way of "covering all their bases".
Since Hot Boat is considered a "Company", .com would seem more appropriate.
Hot Boat probably would have used .com to begin with if that Russian dude wouldn't have "cyber-squatted" on it.
Hell, for all I know, I could be wrong, but that's just the impression I got.

Gig, is that like pocket pool??? I knew when I posted that that I was wide open for somebody! I don't know if many, if any remember the Propiel Pocket Fisherman. They were actually pretty cool! A small, foldable intergrated rod and reel that Ron Propiel marketed back in the 70's. Then again, as I think about it mandelon; I do spend more time "fishin'" for the tools than I do shootin' "pocket pool" as I get older; and older; and older.... Did I say that outloud?

I think getting the ***boat.com domain is a good thing as that is the first thing everyone would try if they didn't know where you site was. well you got a pager that no one ever uses. cell phone, speedstream DSL from a phone company. a router, and that green colored devise looks like to be a credit card machine. ya know the ones they use to program cards. (dont ask how i would know that). and the other stuff look like to me that you have your phone line taped for recording purposes. "i may be wrong though" microsoft keboard, mouse, and game control unit. it looks like to me you also have a pencil sharpener all the way in the back. ohh almost forgot a 1 dollar bill.
let me know which ones i got right

:D eric  You got the pager, cell phone, dollar bill, MS mouse, KB and joystick, speedstream DSL and router correct. Good job.
The green thing is not a credit card machine(how do you know about those anyway?), no pencil sharpener and no phone tapping equipment. Every piece of electronics there (other than the cell and pager) is hooked up to my computer in someway.
