I know this belongs in the tow rigs section, but there is not much traffic there, and I am looking for input quick. I may buy this on Thursday.
Anyone have a 1500 HD with the 6.0? How is it towing? Will it tow a 28' Deck Boat? I heard the mileage sucks, how bad is it?
Any input on these trucks woud be greatly apprciated. :D

Unloaded, expect 14-15 highway for a 2wd, 13-14 for the 4wd. Not great but better than my 8.1! I get 11-12 highway unloaded, 9-10 towing. The 6.0 will tow a deckboat just fine as long as you don't expect to be doing 70 up the hills. There is a ton of info at www.pickuptrucks.com (http://www.pickuptrucks.com) on their forums. Good luck.

Can't give ya any 1st hand knowledge on the GM 6L, I happen to drive a powerstroke and very happy with it.

Personally, I would only buy a diesel. I have one now. I got a friend with the new Duramax, he loves it, he pulls 70 up grapevine with a 36' 5th wheel, with ac on. I have a older GMC diesel and it pulls good, but not that good.

Any input on these trucks woud be greatly apprciated. :D Go with the HD2500 Duramax/Allison!!!
I've got an '02 d-max/ally Crew Cab 4wd.
I never thought I would like a diesel powered vehicle, let alone own one. However, This is the best truck I've ever owned.!! It hauls ass and Pulls My 28' Conquest at 75+ up the cajon pass.
And the best part is I get 21 mpg on the highway and 16 around town even while turnin' 35' Mud terrains. I get about 13.8 mpg when I tow above 70. My buudy's 8.1 2wd hd 2500 doesn't even come near me unless we are both in our trucks by ourselves.

Outcole'd,
As much as it pains me to say this..
Have you looked at the new Dodge's?
I grew up with Chevy's.
But I had a chance to drive a bunch of the new (2003) Chevy and Dodge pickups back to back.
If I was going to buy new. I would have to go Dodge.
More comfortable and more power. Diesel and gas engines.
Stickers seem almost identical.
Just my .02 cents. I really like the Dodge Hemi.

EEEKS!! Not a Dodge!! I would have a Ford long before a Dodge!!

It'll tow it fine,, the final drive screws recomendations are in the brochure and I've always heeded them.
You have the option of 411's or 373's.
Whatever you think your boat weighs loaded,,, add 500 more lbs. and check the chart in the brochure.

We pulled our 29 Warlock over 50,000 miles last year with a Suburban with a 6.0. We'd run in the low 90's across Texas and average in the mid 80's the rest of the time. It has 82,000 on it and still going strong. It's a little weak going up steep grades. Got down to about 45-50. Gas mileage is about 9 the way I drive towing. About 14 around town. The 6.0 package seems strong. A lot better than the old 454's.

I saw an article on the new Hemi, and it said the biggest problem is that it makes peak torque at 4200RPM. Sounds like the tranny is gonna work real hard off the line towing.
I vote for a diesel, ANY diesel.

we had a 2000 dodge 3500 dually with the turbo diesel. we had it flashed to the 4th program. it pulled our 6400lb.t/t all over the carolina's & tenn & not much passed me at anytime.
we traded this year to the 2500 4door with the Hemi (it has also been flashed, but only one program up)and i am impressed with it. i felt nothing could come close to the diesel. you just have to get used to backing out of the hemi.
where as the cummin's i kept my foot in it.
the biggest adjustment i have had to make is the new steering. u move the wheel it responds.
dodge is hard to beat and cheaper.

Thanks for all the input. I want to stick with the Chevy because my Brother works for GM and I get the killer deal without all the B.S. haggling that I hate. I like the duramax, but I cant justify the extra coin for it. I do not tow that much, 6,000 lbs. or less. So the half ton works for me. I have the 5.3 in my truck now that works great, but I want the crew cab.
Thanks Again, and keep the info coming.

6.0 should work fine, but the DMAX rules

hey all
I have an 02 HD with the 6.0 l with 91000 (km,s) about 50000 miles and haul my 20 ft Glastron like nothing, but more importantly haul my off road truck and spares effortlessly (5000lb truck)& 3-4000lbs in spares along with the home built trailer (read very heavy for going into gravel pits and such) and am still getting around 12mpg towing... I have 4.11 gears with the lt285/75r16 tire and is a perfect match for towing on the highway versus gas milage... hope that helps
Quig.

Hey quig I'm assuming that you have a 2500 or is it a 1500? If you have a 1500 how does the 285 tire fit under the truck. I've got a 1500 5.3L and looking for some tires.

My boss has a '02 1500 HD crew cab. They put 265s under it without any problems and without doing anything to the truck to make them fit. It looks alot better than it did with the 245s on it.I've been told you can put 285s under them without clearence problems ,if they are put on the right wheels and the torsion is adjusted up.I have also heard of an aftermarket adjuster for the torsion for more "lift". :D

I have 28560R18's on my '03 2500 HD 4X4. Just adjusted the torsion bar, no problem.
