Steve The truckers refer to the CHP station as the "Bear Den"

Go to a good CB shop. I have a CB that far excides the 40 channel limit. Also I have a 500 watt amp that goes with it. It nothing to talk to someone back east.

Uniden makes a GREAT units, I have a Uniden PC76XL very dependable and cuts through... back in the day Cobra was top of the line, but I belive now there still made in China. Back in the day the better ones were made in Japan, and were the units to have.
I still have an 12+older Cobra 29 that rocks.
What ever one you decide on...get a TELEX Road King 56 Mike.
And ya could take it to any GOOD CB repair shop and for a few extra $$ have them Hot Rod it up.

Make sure you get a tuneable anten. Tuneable antenas are a plus...unless ya move them from vechile to vechile...if thats the case just a standard fiberglass rod antena will do ya just fine.

ther are several good cb radios on the market...I run a Connex 3300 with all the toys...a RCI2970 is another real good on...it all depends on what ya want it for and how far ya wanna talk...Cobra makes quite a few good radios that range from the Cobra 19 plus (bottom line) to the Cobra 148 LTD (top line) in the cobras.. The Connex and rci's are really top line ($300+) and the Galaxy DX99 is also very good too...but dont forget ya need a good antena to go with the radio like a K-40 or Wilson 1000 (as long as they are matched to the radio) are a couple of good choices.

I think he likes to be called "Dr." Bill Good.
Does great work (modifications, etc..)
Used to go to him at Hustler's CB Radio in Victorville.

Sorry to hear about that.
I only know Bill from the four or five times I've met him out at Gamblers (meant to say Gambler's in the last post) to pick up / drop off my Ranger, amp, etc..
