I think I learned in school "The laws of supply and demand dictate the price in which a market will pay for a product." Has supply gone down? No. Has demand gone up? No. WTF? Companies are cashing in. If the supply decreases due to war they will just raise prices again to stay profitable.

This just in...$1.52 in Pheonix last weekend, not bad. Pushin $2.00 in the San Fernando Valley.
AM-PM at the river near Needles, $1.60 for reg. Worth pulling the boat out for.

I also read an article today about a 76 station that carries 100 oct in newport beach and about how it goes for 4.50 a gal he said that he gets 60 cents profit from 4.50 that leaves 3.90 to the oil company and about 32 cents of that goes to the ca gov and the feds.=3.58 profit for oil company WHERE IS THE GREED?

77charger
03-05-2003, 04:19 PM
oh and as far as regular pump gas goes the station owners profit is .08 cents a gal!No wonder why every station now has a mini mart

I have a friend that owns an am-pm and Arco just rakes those guys over the coals. That is why they have the mini-marts. There is no money in the fuel area. The gas companies dictate what they can have inside the store, what they can display etc... They are nazi's when it comes to their fuel.

This just in...$1.52 in Pheonix last weekend, not bad. I don't know where that place was. Everything around here is $1.65 and up. Diesel was $1.83 a gallon last time I filled up. I just love spending $50.00 to top off a tank that's more than a 1/4 full. Guess I'll just have to get fuel more often so it doesn't seem so bad.

F*&ckin Gray Davis just raised the yearly passes for state recreation! For places like lake perris, year passes used to be 60 bucks. Now they are 112 bucks. Gas in Hac. Hghts is 2.07 or 87 octane! I found a place that was 1.99 and was Happy.. Holly crap, wait a minute my S-Duty takes 26 gallons, and only gets 9 miles to a gallon.... There goes the gas card! If it goes 3 bucks a gallon, there goes the truck! Frickin Kia will be my next ride if the gas doesn't go down soon! Gray Davis is a as*H)le! burningm

$1.55 in Okie land.
Its not the stores that are jacking the price. Around here the profit on gas is usually around 1 or 2 cents a gallon for the stores. They just sell it to bring you into the store so you will buy a Big Gulp and a bag of chips! Its the wholesalers and the oil companies. They are the ones jacking us. I don't think the prez has anything to do with it. I know there is other shit going on but someone needs to step in.

well my burb holds 40 gallons and 11-12mpg(on good days)And about 9 towing. It is going to cost me about 40 bucks more for a round trip to the river.Good news is that my new boat can use 87oct and will get twice the mpg than my previous boat(a jet)that also took 100oct so i have been use to paying 2.25-2.50 for gas on that.
I am now working ot on saturdays to start saving for the summer its adding up fast to supplement the vac.money(luckily i can work the weeknds pretty much when i want to!)Now i need to get my gsxr 750 out to commute but i am a wuss when it comes to riding in 48 -65 deg weather :D

But when reg gas gets cheap deisel still remains high!another factor is deisels require more frequent oil and filter changes as well as a higher upfront cost i have also heard that you actually need to put about 100k miles on the deisel to break even then from there you are now putting money back into your pocket. But it looks like most people do not keep their trucks for tha long anymore. We have 6 trucks at work 1 ton flatbeds. So far the deiesls have been more costly as far as maintenence goes compared to my 454 chev truck mine gets 9 mpg dodges get 14(these trucks are loaded down)dodges have had the block crack, broken an exhaust manifolds, gone thru 2 trannys, minor other probs.less than 70k (again these are work trucks). The 454 chev has been thru a motor too but thats about it.
unless you have to tow some heavy boats or trailers gas might have the advantages for the short term but if you are in for the long run then go with a turbo diesel.

I heard that the Goverment makes a percentage off of every gallon sold. It doesn't surprise me that here in California the gas prices are going up so rapidly. This state is run by Democrats, Tree huggers and any other group that feels underprivalaged. As far as I am concerned the Federal goverment needs to step in and set a standard. Were getting f##k over big time and in the long run it will directly affect us here in this state because no one will want to buy. O well it's time to move. P.S. Davis is a scum bag

Well I think we all know that the fuel companies think this is the perfect time to take advantage of consumers before GWB puts a cap on fuel prices again before the war. It just amazes me though that we can capture and use methane from a land fill to run a race track but know one can figure out a way to run it in our every day and recreational vehicles.
I think if the prices get to high I’ll build a still out behind the shed and make my own fuel

77 Charger,
I've never paid more for diesel than regular. As far as cost analysis, true the diesel costs more, but don't require more frequent oil and filter changes than a gas motor. Oil and filter changes are still done at 3000 mile intervals. For me the break even point is about 66,000 miles. I'm at 42,000 now. That's assuming equal fuel costs too. To date I usually spend $.10/gal less on diesel, sometimes a lot less.

An article in the Charlotte Disturber...oops...I mean the Charlotte OBSERVER, stated that the wholesale price of 87 had gone up 14 cents in the last year, but the pump price was almost 3 times that. This talk about controlling the cost is not far off base, it appears.

It would be nice to blame the oil companies, but while they may not be overly competitive now, the big problem lies with many factors. I can recall when the price of gas went from .25/gal to $1/gal. That was thirty years ago. The price has still remained around $1/gal except when we have some temporary crises. If it was some big conspiracy, you would see the prices going up steadily over the years. If you want to blame anyone, blame Chavez and Saddam.

Liberator it would be nice if i could store a drum of gas for every time i take my boat out. But the math just is not there. Example 2 55 gallon Drums for every day i go to the lake and lets say 30 total days of boating. I don't know how big your garage is but keeping 60 55 gallon drums in mine is not possible or is it legle to have more than 2 drums there any way.So i'll just keep getting my eyes poked out at the pump for now.
