View Full Version : Drinking. When is it too much or too often?

My wife downs a couple of glasses of red wine or a couple of beers nearly every night.
I will occasionally drink during the week, but not every night. I will almost always have a few on the weekend and a dozen or so a day on a river or camping trip.
How does this compare with the rest of you?
Do you drink daily or less often?

Usually only on weekends and when out camping once toys are put away, then we really put them away.
Seems like everynight is Friday night and everyday is a Saturday recently eek!

It all depends if I stop by the strip joint on the way home!
If I do it is 6-12 beers there, & someweeks it is 3-4 times a week.
I only drink on the weekends if I am going to the lake.

I budget two beers per night, which I accrue (toward a future date) if I don't drink them.
Maybe that's why I had 38 beers last Saturday?

I drink every night. Can you tell? :D
Even when I work out I have a few after.
Just don't tell your doctor, you won't be able
to get affordable life insurance.

If i have beer in the fridge i'll have a couple every night thats about it.Onthe weekends i might have up to 4 a day the whole day.But if ot home or camping the numbers greatly increase.
One thing i notice is that if i have no beer at home i do not go out of my way(I'll just wait til the weekend) to the local liquor store to buy a 6 pack of sierra nevadas

If in the boat,, no drinks unless I have a DD.
I think PWC riders are better off with me drunk behind the wheel, than my 17 yr old daughter sober. She'll run them down, I'd take evasive action.
Never if you're going to drive through Parker at anytime.
But to answer your question:
I've figured if the one you love is bothered by it,, than it's to much.
For boaters,,, PWC's have changed everything. If you hit one,, even if it's their fault,,, Lot's of issues will arise if you're OUI.
Their familes will sue you anyway,, no matter what,, so if you're OUI,,, then you stand even less of a chance winning.

I drink at home, and on the bench or beach,
then watch out for the other guy.
That way I hurt no one but myself. :p

I only drink when I am alone or with someone. Besides that I never drink.

I'm a social drinker, but hey I found a quote that I thought was appropriate ...
One drink is just right,
.. two are too many,
... and three are too few.

Well, let's put this into perspective....
Breathing, When is it too much or too often? :D

My opinion: 2 beers a night certainly won't kill you.
Getting drunk once in a while won't kill you either, but getting shitfaced all the time will probably ruin your family life and will definitely eventually wreck your health.
I think this is a very personal decision, open to each individual's interpretation of what "too much or too often" means.
Living single, it's way too easy to go barhopping and drink a lot. I was a bachelor for a few years, and hoo boy, did I have some fun.
Married, as soon as I get a good head of steam built up, the missus saves me from myself / ruins it, depending who you ask... :D
Ya know, if a 22 year old guy gets hammered pounding beer straight from the pitcher, standing in a planter outside his favorite drinking establishment, closes the bar, goes over to his bud's house and continues drinking, then throws a boomerang around in the middle of a neighborhood street at 2 am yelling until he loses it into the night after an epic throw which culminates with the distant sound of breaking glass, then wakes up buck naked in the middle of the living room floor, with no money in his pocket and Del Taco wrappers everywhere, it's funny.
If a 35 year old man does the same thing, it's pathetic.
At least my wife says so  :(

I didn't really mean to suggest there is a problem with it, I just wondered how it compared to others. I hear a drink a day keeps your blood flowing by lubricating the platelets of your red blood cells. So one or two is actually good for you.
Of course every drink is around a 100 calories so it can add up to an extra dinner every night if you go too far.

Few glasses of ______ fill in blank on the weekends.
FYI re DUI, Cali law is, if your involved in an accident and your DUI then liability becomes partially or mostly yours even if you were not at fault.
So if you accidently kill someone in an accident that would not otherwise lead to charges if you were sober, if your DUI its felony manslaughter only because your DUI.
That is why I don't DUI anymore.

I follow Dirty Harry's good advise,
"A mans got to know his limitations"
Every day I have a mix drink and a couple glasses of red wine or beer.
I never drink before noon or after 9 pm at night.
Even at a party or while boating I don't ever(well, seldom) drink more than what the every day amount is. Too much alky and a person can cross over into "asshole" that no one wants to be around.
My wife informed me of this years ago.
Of course besides the alcohol ..............

I'll drink a few beers after work in the summer, but not in the winter.
I think the quote, "if it bothers the one you love", maybe its too much -is perfect. I think if it effects your life, and you cant live without it for a weekend, its too much.
Now, its friday, Im off to have a beer. :)

My wife had a problem and it wreaked havoc on the both of us. At first it was one, then it was two, soon it went to the whole bottle =4. Wine will get you wasted. All I can say is if the numbers increase from two it is definitely time to intervene before everyone’s life gets REALLY ****ed up.
I dealt with it once. If she falls of the wagon, I'm sorry I can't go through that again. I'm gone.

True Story - Jacksonville P. D .
Now this one I like.................!!
A man goes to a party and has too much to drink. His
friends plead with him to let them take him home. He
says no -- he only lives a mile away.
About five blocks from the party, the police pull him
over for weaving and ask him to get out of the car and
walk the line. Just as he starts, the police radio
blares out notice of a robbery taking place in a house
just a block away.
The police tell the party animal to stay put, they
will be right back and they hop a fence and run down
the street to the robbery.
The guy waits and waits and finally decides to drive
home.
When he gets there, he tells his wife he is going to
bed, and to tell anyone who might come looking for him
that he has the flu and has been in bed all day.
A few hours later the police knock on the door. They
ask if Mr. Joe is there and his wife says yes. They
ask to see him and she replies that he is in bed with
the flu and has been so all day.
The police have his driver's license. They ask to see
his car and she asks why. They insist on seeing his
car, so she takes them to the garage. She opens the
door. There sitting in the garage is the police car,
with all its lights still flashing.
True story, told by the driver at his first AA
meeting.

Self preservation…..When is enough, enough?

Her454
10-03-2003, 08:55 AM
I understand the self preservation part, its just
difficult- period. I dealt with the same thing, except it was with drugs. Completely changes people and spirals lives. Especially if there are kids involved.
Im sure this thread is taking a different turn than intended..sorry Mandy!
