Like frosting on the cake, baby. The painter showed up at my place this morning driving one of the nicest '32 five window coupes I have ever seen. I was so blown away that I didn't even think of taking some pictures of it.
You won't believe this: The guy told me yesterday he was still thinking about how much to charge me, he wanted to give me a good deal because he liked the boat so much. So when he finished this morning, he told me the bill came to $75. Wow, three trips and about an hour each time and that's all he wanted. What a cool dude.
I told him we would go for a ride soon... :D http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/500/109stripe-med.jpg

Looks sweet. Does it get a clear coat or anything over it to protect the striping from dock type damage?? 10 coats of carnauba maybe??
Or if Scuba Steve tries to ram into you too?? :D

i noticed in the picture of that beautiful boat that there isn't a snail on the logs? just wondering why? what benefit is there? less resrictive maybe? won't water travel to the heads? it does look good without them and your boat looks bitchen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's a good question. My buddys motor hydraulic that way.
He let off the gas to quick and sucked water right in. Bent a rod like an S.
Expensive mistake.
Awsome looking boat!

Flats don't need snails, exhaust manifolds are usually above the waterline. Also most transom exh. tips have a rubber flapper in them, that keeps the backwash out.

rrrr- Very nice ride. Congrats on the outcome. How long of a rebuild time has It been? I noticed in your photo album the pictures from 67-68. Have you just gotten the boat or have you had it for some time. Once again, nice project and very well done. It should turn some heads. Hope to see some on the water pics soon.

I bought the boat in November 2001. Took it apart by January '02, had the motor done by March, then let it sit until December '02. Props to a couple of my employees, they really helped out. We were a little slow, so I had them help on the reassembly for the last two months. Since I took about 75 digital pics, I just put the photos on a laptop so my guys could see how it had been assembled previously.
I just got back from the lake, it's almost 10 PM here. I had a )*^%)*& great day, blasted all over the lake, docked at the restaurant and soaked up compliments, pounded the shit outta my kidneys, stopped at a roadside BBQ stand on the way back.... you get the idea.
I gotta tell you, driving a flattie is so damn cool, I was yelling and laughing like an idjit today going across the lake. What fun!!! :D :D :D

Must be nice?!. Being able to enjoy your boat and just not stare at it. I live near Portland OR and it has rained something like 24 of the last 25 days. Things are getting better, they are calling them rain showers now. That means it stops for a couple hours each day. Damn, I can't wait for Red Bluff. Hope to get some seat time before then.

My buddy's boat blew the rubber flap and hydraulic. Just make sure you have quality flaps! eek!

I'm finding out that gettin' off the gas quick in a v drive isn't a good idea anyway. :D Actually, the tips that were on the boat when I bought it didn't have flappers.
I bought new tips, figured it was cheap insurance.

I had 2 Howard flats just like that and never used snails or flaps and never had a problem. Beautiful Boat !!

I forgot to add smartass remark, "Jetboats need snails so when they are being towed back to the marina, the wakes from other boats don't fill up the engine with water and make the problems even worse."
Bwwwwaaaaaahahahaha!!!! :D :D :D
Just kidding!!
