I was just wondering how much gas most of you guys use in a day of moderate to heavy driving in v-drive, stern drive, and jet drives. Basically ive been around prop boats my whole life and was wondering if getting a jet is going to be a huge mistake as far as gas goes. any info would be much apprecaited.

We get about 2 miles per gallon in our 20'Jet boat with a 454. We have 2 twenty gallon tanks and try to only fill up once a day. I say if you're concerned about gas, stay away from the jets. . .we're not. It just depends on what you're priorities are and what kind of boating you do.

I have one 20 gallon tank in my Taylor and burn that up after work on the river in an evening. Approximately 5:30 to 9:30, or about 4+ hours. I currently carry a five gallon reserve tank, just incase I don't watch the guage close. This is an 18' boat with a 455 Olds, Berkeley pump, two passengers, full cooler, & misc. junk.
I have heard V-drives are the most fuel efficient.
