Good thing you're in the mid west as you most likely won't run into this car at the track.

Good Ole 4G63 power. Why FWD and not AWD though? And what kinda turbo is that on there? Prolly gonna take an awfully big shot of happy gas to spool that sucker up.
I use to have an Eclipse that I had set up for road racing and ocassional passes down the local drag strip. I miss that thing.

I donno why FWD. It's a drag car I'm pretty sure. Maybe it's the class it's running in, I donno.
I don't know jack shit about imports myself. My friend owns the shop where I took that pic. I've been blown away time and time again seeing the HP #'s that he gets on the dyno out of those lil suckers.
Oh, he's a nitrous freak and I'm sure that will be getting a large dose of happy gas.
I should have gotten some pics of some of the other cars in there. Pretty neat stuff. A sand rail was just bad ass!

Looks like a 4G63 engine. They better have gotten a posi trans from New Zealand if it's FWD only, or else they won't find the gears they need with those tires. That turbo won't be spooling up real quick with the flow limitations with that head though. Rod Millen used to port them into the coolant passages looking for more flow! Sure hope they setup the GSX drivetrain. Been there, done that back in the early nineties.

Was that at R&D? Yup, this is not Darren's first goat ropin. I would think it will run pretty hard.

Cool car. I take it that's a 4... or is it a V8 with one head off?
It looks more stout than the 2.5 in my Citation.

To build something like that ground up you're talkin about 25k-30k. Breakage wont be to bad other then having to rebuild the tranny after every event. DSM trannys are POS. But if you grenade the motor you only have 4 pistons and rods to replace rather then 4.

hummmmm I can build a car to nines, single four, that will live a whole season with just plug changes.
Those imports are fast but for half the money you could bulit something just as fast or faster.
Or just put together a 360 cubic inch mopar, iron heads, single four in a rear engine dragster and go run 8's all damn day.

If I were to build a car that would live its entire life as a track car I wouldn't choose an import to do it with. However, when I want to have a 12 second street legal daily driver that gets 28 MPG I would definitely go import again. However, I wouldn't do it with a Honda. My next car is still debatable but my biggest debate is new or used. New Evo Lancer 8 (270HP off the showroom is appealing) or Used 93-94 Eclipse GSX (price tage is appealing) I gotta do something soon though because driving the gas guzzling Durango everywhere and having a 20 mile commute each way is growing quite costly with gas.

I just do not get the import thing.
Lots of money to go slow.

Lots of money to go slow. How so???
93 Eclipse GSX $2,500
20G Turbo and all supporting mods $4,000
1/4 mile time 12.2@114 MPH
$6,500 for a car that can be driven daily, gets 28 MPG, Flat out hauls ass, and can also go rallying in the dirt. Sounds pretty good to me considering that people pay 50k+ for cars that barely run 13's in the 1/4.

The early 4G63s had the 6 bolt cranks, and the early 5 speeds didn't have the organic faces on the syncros. (Did you know the cheap HP was using a 4G64 (2.4 DOHC) short block? Deck height is a little higher, so you'll have to source the t-belt, but so what! For the trans, just run ATF instead of the 70-80w gear oil and you're fine.... no syncro blocking.
BTW, if ANYTHING goes away on that motor, it's minimum $2k repair (with labor) if you didn't waste the head. I loved those engine$....

Problem with the 91 is the pop up head lights suck and it has a 3 bolt rear end. I'll take the 7 bolt motor in place of the 3 bolt rear end any day. Change the T-Belt regularly and nothing to makjor is going to happen.

If these things are so great why are you building a big ol chev for your boat?? in a word "boring" :D
Go to the drags and when the rice rockets come out watch the stands clear, gee looky a front wheel drive car. sleeping sleeping
