I gave up on that virus-infected site. If you download the most current browser, it puts some nasty-ass spyware and pop up modules on your pewter...crap that is a pain in the arse to remove (try Spybot, it makes ad-aware look like a beginners program).
Good seeing you over this past weekend. Stop looking at porn and go sell a boat!

Spybot is awesome , i also found another spyware tool , Aluria Spyware scanner, it gets rid of whatever the Spybot doesn't catch, it's good to have both, ever since i have been using these 2 i have not had any problems w my browser or stupid pop ups.

C-2 is right. Kazaa is part of the Gator Corp. Gator = Spyware. Give up on it and use WinMX. No spyware, no viruses...Just free music.

Have to agree..spybot is the best...
kazza wont run after running spybot...
but there are apps like bottler that let you download from irc servers...which is better the p2p anyday
check here for Bottler (http://www.memelog.com/bottler/overview.html)
Looks like site is having some problems..but they will be backup before long :D

You think all this ILLEGAL STEALING would end?? Dude it depends on what it is that you are downloading to be deemed stealing. Some things that are copy written & downloaded may be deemed as theft if you are taking them from an unknowing owner, remember, NOT EVERYTHING is copy written that is shared. The people who do advertise the files are the ones who may be in violation, They put it into a shared folder & advertise it availability to take, those that take are just accepting what is being offered by someone who may have paid money for it. SO is downloading copy written content any different than my neighbor giving me a CD to listen to if I didn't pay for it?

**** you Brodie. You wanna pay for music go head.
I`m not stealing or selling anything. These are MY files and they are in MY shared files folder. I have them there for other people to use. They are MINE and I want to be a nice person and SHARE with others. I`m not breaking any laws by sharing MY personal property. PERIOD!

Hey gnarley, I know it's a tough situation and unfortunately the law has been struggling to keep up.
NOT EVERYTHING is copy written that is shared. This argument doesn't hold water for me becuase it just seems like a "Scapegoat" arguement. Kinda like, yeah, I use this waterbong to smoke tobacco..........
They put it into a shared folder & advertise it availability to take, those that take are just accepting what is being offered by someone who may have paid money for it. I'm not a lawer, but I'm pretty sure that's illegal. The whole thing has to do with "Intellectual Property".
Anyway, we're just goofin on the whole thing. If people really would only trade non-copywritten material then this stuff would eventually go away.
And Hoss, you need to read the law, because you don't own that material, you own a "compact disc". The law allows you to make a copy of it for "your personal use". Anything else is illegal. Just because people have been getting away with it doesn't mean it's ok.
By the way, where ya been?? Welcome back.

perfectly nice thread...and then comes Hoss :( Always the voice of reason huh Hoss? Turn that argument into the RIAA and see how they feel about...hmmm balls not THAT brass are they hoss?
Anyway, for those with an iq breaking single digits...the hack can be found at cnet. it is simply called kazza hack.
As for the moral implications, is it theft? Yup. So is charging 15 for 2 songs and the rest complete shite. Is this the best argument...eh...its good enough. I will say though, 9 times out of 10 I am downloading something I couldn't find/ or own now, or did in the past...I am kind of a nostalgic guy, but I am also quite careless :( My favorite downloads are live stuff...like out of print REM...which I can't even get from legitimate places. And if I like it...I WILL buy it.

hey hoss...you also might want to read the agreement you agreed to when you bought the CD...can you read that? Hmm...have someone else read it to you.

Hey TB, I agree there's alot of good stuff out there that you can't get anywhere else, such as live recordings.......OOPS!! I mean BOOTLEG RECORDINGS STOLEN BY SOME FAG AT A DEAD SHOW!!!
Sorry. Here's my prediction: The RIAA is gonna start coming after the bootleggers too! So now what's left. No copywritten material, no bootlegged live recordings, I suppose we'll have to start stealing muzac or that crappy midi shit.
Brodie, I believe the proper spelling is TURD!!!

there are some bands that actually encourage bootlegging of shows...like phish (not making a good case for myself here)

Read it TB uhhhh I meen horn scraper. I am not copying data for resale, sale, personnal gain, or copying purposes. I am not breaking ANY copyright laws. I am simply storing MY purchased information on MY computer for MY own usage.
When a man robbed a bank with a shotgun he was braking the law. When a man then robbed a bank with a double barrel shotgun was he breaking the law worse than the man with the single barrel gun? How `bout the man with the automatic weapon?
My point being that technological advances in computer software which enables others to scan/steal/copy files from my computer does not make me a criminal. In fact it in no way implies that I`m breaking the law. If I choose to sleep with my doors unlocked then when and if I get robbed am I an accessory to the crime?
Terrible Buddhist I do think you`re a fat stinky towel head and **** ALA!

Terrible Buddhist I do think you`re a fat stinky towel head and **** ALA! amazing...at first I thought maybe it was sheer stupidity, but now I'm leaning toward "impaired intelligence"..... I bet all the Buddhists are real upset about that Alla comment.....
Hoss, just keep on putting "your files on your folders and share em with the world" and let your lawer sort it out later.
Shouldn't you call yourself "Robbin Hood" wink

Since we're on the subject. You terds better pick up a copy of DVD Xcopy from 321 Studios while you can and before the software is banned.
What copyright protection? Program works like a dream. It even puts a screen on the copied DVD, similar to the FBI warning about pirating. Go figure!
Burn away my friends. Oh yeah, I bought my copy!!!

With all this talk about spyware, If I have used programs like kazaa in the past, is there something on my hardrive I should know about? And how do I go about looking for it?
Thanks

Download Spybot and run it. You'll be amazed at the crap it finds. I maintain my computer very well, but the first time I ran that program I had 728 files that were found. I really don't give a crap about spyware...it's those damn pop up's that get me
Some of the spyware is resident when you buy your computer! Spybot gets rid of it.

Adaware from Lavasoft works well too...but PAY ATTENTION to what you are deleting...you can really screw up your system if you are not careful.
