View Full Version : Time to go

Over the past few weeks IÂ’ve been watching the forums quality go downhill (my opinion only) with the threads full of arguing and bashing others and just what I call drama in general. IÂ’ve voiced my opinion before so I wonÂ’t beat on the subject again here. I know and respect that some here like the drama factor.
Originally when I chose to accept the moderator position here it was primarily because the forum was in immediate danger of being shut down by the owner due to porn content. I felt the need to step in and help preserve it because I and many others here I think enjoy having these forums available. Myself and the other moderators cleaned it up quickly and the threat of shutdown subsided. Now as time has passed the moderation duties have been mainly dealing with arguments and personal attacks that get out of hand. ItÂ’s not an area I enjoy dealing with because I basically donÂ’t like to argue, I feel itÂ’s a waste of energy. Also itÂ’s the moderatorÂ’s job to step in and make a decision. That decision is seldom 100% popular with an audience of several thousand different people and many different viewpoints on any given subject. I donÂ’t especially enjoy reading the drama and have come to the conclusion for the most part I wouldnÂ’t if I didnÂ’t feel obligated to as a moderator. IÂ’d been contemplating all this even prior to the more recent threads where some more serious arguments took place. I feel its just time for me to return to being a non-moderator at this point in time. IÂ’ve emailed Craig and asked him to make that happen.
I plan on posting much less now that IÂ’ve made this decision. Like IÂ’ve said above I donÂ’t enjoy the adversarial atmosphere IÂ’ve seen on a large number of the threads lately. LifeÂ’s too short. IÂ’ll still pop in and out on the tech forums occasionally because thatÂ’s the part I enjoy participating in for the most part. There are a lot of great people on the forum, which I consider friends even though never met. There are just enough angry ones though that I feel this is the choice I need to make. ItÂ’s been a good experience to be a moderator here but now itÂ’s time for me to move on. You all take care.

mike it was great to read all your responces to all the ***boaters that you have answered with all there questions. and among all the other people that are out here.its to bad that people can't get along. there,s enough problems out in the world to have to bring them in to these forms. this is a great site to read about boating and fun in the sun and get great advice like what works for me and what doesn't for you on our boats. you can learn alot by others mistakes.

I agree. It's too bad there's so many whiney ass people that don't know what the hell they're talking about. This is a boating forum & should be informative & fun. If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all.

Rexone, I don't blame you.
I would HATE being a moderator.
Personally, I don't like the fighting and anger either.
It's kinda like babysitting a bunch of first graders!!!
It's too bad a few "bad eggs" have to spoil the entire egg salad!!!
I think they should use *unknown* moderators.
Maybe set up user names for each moderator such as: "Moderator1", "Moderator2", etc.
That way there, the moderators can do their job without any personal attacks.
JMO!
Cheers ~RK :D

Mike, you did good. Thanks for wiping our noses and, occasionally, our asses.
I hope you don't stray too far. You would be missed. :)
Be honest though, I'm the reason you're leaving... aren't I???

I respect your decision to Step down as a moderator. You have made some very good reasons to do so. I think the good people in here out number the bad. It's just the A-hole ones that can spoil the boards and stick out in your mind, which is what they want. I have been on these boards for a couple of years and have received my share of personal attacks also. If I can give any advice it would be don't lt them have the satisfaction. Just remember, some internet geek will never have your kind of happpiness. If all of the good people left these boards, then it would become a piece of crap. So consider staying on Mike. I think I speak for most people in here, when I say we enjoy your presence. :)

Mike, I completly agree with you however Im sorry to see you go. You contribute so much to the boards. The boards have become negative lately and I hope this loss will be an eye opener for those that thrive on the drama or unfortunatly there will be more that leave, including myself.

Seems like every year about this time the boating boards get kinda ugly. Folks have been couped up all winter, chomping at the bit to get on the water. After a few weeks of pissin' matches, we all get out on the water and then the boards get real quiet.
I personally will miss your logic, reason, and helpful posts. But, I too understand your distaste for the petty bickering.

I'm sorry Mike/Rexone you have always been the "level headed" politician here.
Thank you for volunteering your time and please don't leave the boards altogether. :D

I'm glad we met you before you decided to leave, thanks for everything...especially the polished thing-a-ma-jigs you helped us out on :D
I agree with someone up in the begining of this thread that said "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all" however, if you feel an out of control urge to say something contradicting...try to word it in a respectful and gentle way...otherwise it comes across mean :( and we aren't here to hurt eachother...are we? frown

Mike,
I think that you have been a fair moderator and I am sorry to see you leave. Your level head and objective opinion will be greatly missed. I was happy to know that if I ever felt that anything was inappropriate on the boards I could report it to you and it would get taken care of.
I am glad that you decided to stay on the tech threads though. Your assistance in the tech threads are invaluable. I know that you have gone out of your way to help many people on these boards, including me with problems we were having.
Please check in on us post whores in the sandbar every now and then. Your humor is always appreciated.
Best Wishes, :)

I'z just screwin with you guys. Thought I might at least get a goin away present out of it, maybe a small boat, a used truck, an old barbeque or something... no biters on that though, not even a box of candy :( lol.
Seriously, I received over a dozen emails today asking me to reconsider, some from members I've never even posted with before. That's in addition to those on this thread. So I've decided to stay on as mod in the tech forums only and hot spots west. I've had enough sand bar drama for now at least. I'm hoping the forums will calm down a little because I know there are good members leaving and spending the majority of their forum time elsewhere. Just my .02 (that you're now again stuck with). :D

Rexone, you make good sense...It can get ugly in here. I don't blame anyone for not wanting to be a moderator, but you don't have to leave the boards( we know you'll be back anyway), you can always lurk for awhile and post when something interests you. I think you can tell by the responses on this thread that most people appreciate your input, even if they are still waiting for the darn catalog!! :D

Mike and ***boat,
Just a suggestion. I'm the Admin/Moderator over on the Banderlog board. We created a forum called the Burn Barrel on Banderlog that any and all bs threads will go into. It's worked out real well for us and also the members.
If and when a thread starts going bad, my self or the other Admin just toss it in the Burn Barrel. The thread stays in tact but it's off whichever main board into a place it belongs. There is no warning, it just happens at our discretion.
It seems people get the point real quick when they go to read the thread and it's in the burn Barrel.
Just a thought.
