Please help...I am going to go shopping for a new camera as a gift for my wife and I would like a digital one. My budget is around $650.00... and I definitley will take it to the river and the lake. Some thing with a zoom for upclose action shots from with in the boat for tubin' it and wake boarding shots. What do guys and gals suggest? :D

Busti, check out www.refurbdepot.com (http://www.refurbdepot.com) they have some real good price's. I bought a Toshiba PDR-M60 at 2.3 pixels for $179.00. I have had no problems with it at all & easy to use. Takes good picture's too. I bought a memory card at Sam's Club for $47.00 and now I can take 250 picture's at a time.

You can check out www.epinions.com (http://www.epinions.com) for reviews of digital cameras. You can search by brand, price, features, etc. Pretty nice website.

Everyone has their own idea about what camera is best, there sure are a lot to choose from. From personal experience, I just bought a Fuji 3800 for around $475.00. I love the 8x optical zoom, and the photo quality is better than my last two digital cameras... that cost more than the Fuji. The only reason I bought it was for the 8x optical zoom, and it has been worth every penny. It uses the XD memory card, I wish it was the SD like my two other cameras... Good luck, there are a lot of good cameras out there these days...

i have a nikon 880 and it kicks ass t hasa lot of zoom (10x) and 3.34 mp
i also have ( but am selling to disco) a sony cybershot dsc-p30 its got 6x zoom and is 1.3 mp
and that camera is a good one too . the only reason i sold it is the reason that i wanted more zoom i take a lot of drag boat shots and more zoom is better and i also have a 2.x converter for my 880 too and it makes it like 20x so that is kick ass. wink :D

any of the sony's are great. they have many choices. be aware that a better camera with less mp's takes much better pictures than other no name's with a much higher mp count

My wife bought a cannon g-2 powershot with 4megpix
for around $700. It has a 256 MB card in it which will hold a lot of pictures. Good Luck it is confusing.

I have the Sony DSC-P71, and love it. The P7 is newer, but I like the P71's rechargeable AA batteries (they are much cheaper and provide long life) and it's size fits my hands better. Here is a sample of the many favorable reviews of this camera:
"A great all-around three-megapixel camera hits the consumer "sweet spot."
Between the rock-bottom "entry level" models and the rarified domain of "enthusiast" shooters, there's a huge middle ground of what I call "everyday" cameras. These are full-featured models for the average user, cameras for people who don't care for the complexity of high-end models, but still want some degree of flexibility. The DSC-P71 is one of Sony's strongest entries here, an excellent little three-megapixel model that takes great pictures, with a good set of features, all at an affordable price. With a full three megapixels, and a sharp 3x optical zoom lens the P71 is a goes beyond pure "point and shoot" capabilities, but remains very easy to use. (If you want a similar camera, but with less resolution, check out the two-megapixel DSC-P51.) (Posted to Dave's Picks: 11-21-2002)"
