The problem with those darn organized leagues is they have an event every frickin' weekend.
Summer league, Winterball, etc. Really cuts into the boating time.....Sorry, kid!
Now I teach them to wakeboard instead. :D :D

These kids could play. Hit, field, and throw. I am still amazed by it. smile_sp He was a good ball coach.

All three of mine play.
I also manage two of the teams. My son in minors baseball and my daughter in t-ball. Too many scheduling problems to do all three. It's a pain, and it takes up lot's of time. It's also very rewarding.
Getting involved makes the time go by fast too.
It's really a thrill when they start "getting" all the things you've taught them.

Can't agree more MohaveKid, makes it all worth it. Seeing them having fun and getting better. When I coach, my goal is every kid involved and want to come back the next year.

Well I have one who plays but I think she is giving up for her and her sisters new found love.....ICE HOCKEY. Yea i have two girls who play hockey and kick but at it. Thy 12 yr old playes in the net and can stops them with the best of them. And then there is my 9 yr old who just astounds her Skills development coach with her skating ability, who is, if you follow professional hockey may know, Kenny McCudden. Kenny was a skills coach for CO Avalanche and Chicago Wolves. They both playing on a travel team out of Crystal lake IL.
Sorry proud pop here....

Hocky, that is cool. I have friends with kids who are on traveling teams. They spend a lot of time and money on the road.

Money, time and hockey go had and hand. Goalie equip. I have over $1200.00 for a 12 yr old. My 9 yr old 300.00+. Spring, $315.00 ea. Fall season 1500.00 9 yr old. and thank god 1/2 for the Goalie. But still thats 2880. in fees just to play
So now lets add Summer camps cost of traveling. Still would not trade it for anything. Money well spent. Funny thing about Hockey and I dont care where it is you play the level coaching and Skill development is higher than I have seen in any of the sports I played as a kid. But even with the intensity that they play at the main goal is that the kids have fun. And they do. My 9yr old eat sleeps and lives hockey. gotta love it.

My oldest son started his 2nd year last night. He started last year in T-ball, but when tryouts came around, he did so well that the minors pulled him up into their division. I'm sure he'll do great. (crossed fingers) There are some kids that look better than the pro's. I can the $ signs and contracts in their heads now.

Both of my kids are playing this year. My daughter is 8 and playing fastpitch softball. She decided she wanted to pitch this year so it takes up even more of our time. On top of two practices a week and usually 2 games we are outside pitching practically every night. It is all worth it though, last weekend she pitched 2 great innings and hit a Grand Slam. We were so excited!
My son is 4 and is playing baseball. His league is actually not tee ball, it is coach pitch. He is doing so great, hits the ball well and has a great arm. You probably think I am crazy to say that, but if you saw him you would believe me. He is the only one on the team that actually stays focused on the game. It is so cool to see him out there and having such a good time. He wanted to play last year but was too young. He cried when we told him he couldn't play. That sucked!
Sorry it's kinda long, but I am definitely a proud dad!! :D
Advice for anyone, definitely get involved with the kids sports, and continue with them as they grow. My feeling is: A family that plays together, stays together.

I managed my oldest son for 8 seasons in La Mirada Pony. Now he's the starting pitcher for Santa Fe H.S. JV. The great thing is they play their games right after school and no weekends.
My daughter played 3 season of Pony and moved to softball because her friends played there. She quit after one season because she said the game (softball) was so slow & boring. Now she just plays soccer & voleyball.
My youngest is a second season t-baller (in fact we have a game in 45 min) and I manage the team. Thanks to his watching his older brother for so many years he ended up getting division MVP last year.
I love watching them play all these things but it sure cuts into boating

Thumbs up to KIDS and BASEBALL! The two greatest mixers around! I've coached boys from T-Ball up through High Schholand let me tell ya;one of THE BEST DAMN TIME I SPENT WITH MY KID and all the other kids off the water. Each level has it's advantages and disadvatages; but rewarding all the same! For the parents of the little guys playin' the greatest game on earth, be kind to the coaches (and umps)! Remember, they are UNPAID VOLUNTEERS and are out there by themselves for all intents and purpose (W/ an occasional assistant). You got 4 kids? They have 12-15....and you coaches, I salute you! As a coach, I always expected 100% from "my" kids , and usually got it. Just be sure to teach them that 100% doesn't mean a ganme-winning hit each time at bat or a game saving catch. It simply means to give your all and do your best. You wouldn't believe some of the things I've seen and heard from parents and friends. If your kid strikes out w/ the bases loaded and down by a run,or misses a game-costing catch, support them, don't belittle them. Teach them that 100% does not always = success, but if you give 100%, then you shouldn't hang your head, but hold it up and say w/pride "I'll get 'em next time!".... and be sure to get your kids to spread it to their teammates.
Sorry about the long-winded editorial but ya hit on two things that are near and dear to me, KIDS AND BASEBALL! :D

Gig, I feel ya bro. The Pony league here is very competitive, er....I mean the parents in the league are very competitive. This will probably be my last year coaching, at least for a while. The kids are great but parents can be a big pain in the ass. I'm just there to teach fundementals and have a good time. We lose kids every year in the league because of the hardcore nature of some of the parents and other coaches. I've seen fights, full blown arguments between coaches, parents, umpires blah blah blah. The entire time the kids are just standing there probably thinking, "can we just play ball"?
I'll stop but I could go forever.
TCHB, Mater Dei.....definitely a top school. My wife was invited to attend Mater Dei but she turned it down to go to school with her friends at La Quinta in Westminster. She kicks herself all the time about not going. She went on to play softball for Goldenwest College for a year and then went on to major in dance. Unless your a stripper that won't get you anywhere..LOL
As for Santa Fe, my wife and I are very good friends with Harry Yessian (assistant principle). Santa Fe has produced two major leaguers Mark Kotsay and Rod Barrajas. I'm pretty sure Barrajas was a backup catcher for the Diamond Backs when they won the World Series.

I graduated from Sante fe in 84 and in 82 Todd Burns was the pitcher for SF,he pitched in the 88 world Series for the A's. I have two boyz that play in Whittier Pony. My oldest boy hit a homerun on Sat. you should have seen it. It was a towering fly ball to the pitcher who missed it and the ball rolled toward the dugout. As my boy dug for second the pitcher threw the ball into the out feild and my boy made it all the way home. He is on pace to catch Bonds :D and he doesn't have a bad attitude yet.
