What do you guys pay for boat insurance? Who is the best Insurance Co.? What size boat and horsepower?
I'm trying to get insurance for 37' to 40' boat range. With some of the prices I've got it may mean a smaller boat for me.

$1,486 for a 26 foot Cat, I'm only running a 396 Mag, It's only pushing 375 hp. I go through progressive, and I'm able to pay it off in payments if I want. I've had them for 2 years.

I'm switching to State Farm. We pay $100.00 per year more now than we just got quoted for a 26 Cat that costs way more money and has way more HP. Progressive is out.

With My Eliminator 300 Eagle I was paying about 1700 and I shopped it regularly. I had Allstate which is a pretty good boat insurance company from all reports. It started out at 1500 and went up year after year.
With my new Ultra 21 LX I am spending just over 400 bucks with Progressive. I didn't shop this one I will soon though, as I understand they aren't the cheapest. I just needed the coverage in a hurry.
Both of these are with 500K liability.

I've heard that this is a good price, and then others say it's not. Who knows... Next year when I have more time to shop around and compare prices I will.

Progressive told me they wouldn't insure cats. I used them for my last boat, but when I bought my cat and tried to go with them they said no. I've had progressive for two years now. Before them nobody would insure the boat. Even though it is as heavy as a sinking german U-Boat and only pushes 61 mph.

I was thinking of buying a Daytona for a while until I decided to check on insurance. Allstate and Progressive told me to GPS, later I decided not to buy a cat and get an Eagle. Even that was difficult when they saw the power and asked how fast it went...

WARNING ABOUT STATE FARM!!! when I got my boat I called them before I got it and they quoted me $16 a month.. after about 3 months I got a letter that I was dropped (just the boat), when I called they said that if the boat goes over 50 even though the agent might have snuck it through that it WOULD NOT have been covered.. I am now with the boat US affiliate program and pay $1000 a year.. biggest question to ask i was told " If I am running along at 100mph and hit someone am I covered??" ask your state farm agent that one and tell him to conferm it

$560 per year with WestMar.
Exact replacement value, plus engine/hull/prop/ shallow water and dock rash damage covered.
$200 deductable.
2004 Tige' 22iR with an Extreme trailer.
All options.
We had AAA, but they excluded Havasu/Park Moabi so we had to switch.

I have Boat US now on my 27' Carrera. I pay about $580.00 per year. No tickets or accidents on my record and years of boating experience.
I'm selling the Carrera and looking at boats in the 37' to 40' range. Called Boat US for a quote on something that size running about 70 mph with twin 500 efi's. I almost fell over when the guy told me $3000.00 a year. I don't want to know what it would be with twin 575's.
Thanks for the help. I will be making contact with some of your insurance companies on Monday. I will not be giving any more $$$$$$$$$$ to Boat US.

Did AAA change there policies? We have AAA also and were told they cover the boat anywhere in the USA.. Did they recently change it within the last 6 months??

bigq, I don't know why. I agree, it's not all that radical. I remember the State Farm agent wrote a policy on it but the underwriter at their home office shot him down. If I could get a policy for a decent premium I would sign up.

I almost fell over when the guy told me $3000.00 a year.If your looking for a V bottom, 3000.00 a year sounds kinds high, at least you have a large choice of insurance companies. I used Allstate on my old boat, 30' V W/ HP500 top speed 72, they charged me 980.00 per year. I've got a 36' cat now, (2) HP500's, Top speed 110, im paying 4440.00 per year through Markel. That covers full replacement value, but has a 7% deductiable per occurance (18,000K), and a 3 mo lay-up. They were the cheaper of the only two companies that would take my boat. All others kicked it out as soon as they talked to underwriting or just stated that they did not insure cats period or boats over 50-60 mph. Markel wanted $7200 per year with 2% deductable and no lay up, thats crazy. Im gambling with the high deductiable, but would never run anything through insurance unless it was major anyway. Any major at fault boat claims with a cat and I hear your almost guarnteed no insurance next time.

My bro and I have been working on our 64 & 65 chevelles. We've got tons of ideas, but not the funds to match, with my teacher's salary, new F-250, boat, price of living in San Diego.
Here is a pic of the 64, we originally got it for our 16 birthday 11 years ago. It's already had 3 paint jobs, 4 sets of rims & tires, 3 motors, a couple trannies. Now we are going to strip it down and start over again from the frame up. When we are done it will be air bagged, he does upholstery so that's going to be pretty tricked out. He's currently welding in new rear quarter panels.

Thanks Greg,
I actually planned on calling you tommorow to see who you had for insurance now and if it would be the same company with the new boat.
Had a good time at the Heat Wave with you and your family.
