I'm in the market for a 2003 GMC 4WD w/ the Duramax. I'll probably buy one in the next week if I can find what I like.
I just need to know what people are paying for these things. i don't need the actual number. I'd be happy knowing how much above invoice people are paying. I've read on other sites about people paying only $100 over invoice but the dealer near me won't come near that...he's offered me $750 over invoice if I order a 2004 but then I can't get all the incentives that are offered right now.
Thanks for any help...

You can build a truck and see invoice. The numbers are dead on. I would expect to pay around $43k for a loaded crew cab. But that's just a guess. Check it out.

By the way. Fleet deals $100 over are BS on a high demand truck unless you have a very good friend in the business. My local dealers were quoting me between $750-$1250 over on D-max, $500 over on 2500 4x4 Suburbans, etc. But when you are spending $40k what is $500? I would pay $500 more for a smooth transaction from a reputable dealer in my own neighborhood. I wouldn't spend 2 days driving and calling around just to save $500. And then drive 2 hrs to go get the truck. But that's just me.
Good luck!

I agree with Old Lavey on that particular truck with Fleet pricing....
A couple of months back I did some price request on the same truck but Chevy, and I was getting 2K-2.5K off the sticker price which I thought was probably 1K still above invoice...retail was around 46 for the truck I was price quoting....that particular model is a high demand truck...But with the financing low right now it still might be the right time....

I'm finding that out right now. The incentives are so good ($5K) that there aren't many out there and the deals aren't as good. I can get $600 over invoice if I order a 2004 though...I just lose $4K in incentives.

Do those incentive $$s include possible low interest financing options that you can lock into now?

RacerX
07-16-2003, 06:33 PM
There's 5K in incentives on the Duramax...only 2K if you take the low financing with it.
But I also get the $750 military discount and I have $1200 in GM credit from the GM visa card so I got almost $7K to help get the cost down. :D

TPC, is yours a new 2003 crew cab 4x4 SB? If it is I would have to say you may want to go back and check your contract. OTD includes tax and license and that runs 10% in Cali. That means you paid just over $30k for a truck that lists for about $40k. Sorry, but I think you are a little off. I shopped for those trucks last week and invoice is about $36-38k +/-.
Maybe $33,500 is after rebate but before T&L?
Not trying to flame you I just think you should double check those numbers?
is it me or the prices just out of hand . Raskal,
No doubt! I am still in sticker shock. jawdrop
We ended up buying a 2003 Quad Cab 4x4 Cummins SB fully loaded, leather, bench, 6-disk, wheels, etc. It was the highest MSRP of any one we could locate in Cali at $42,940. I paid $36,365 after rebates. There is no way I could have got a simlar Chevy for that.
Anyway, shit is getting expensive. Houses, cars, especially boats , etc. I don't see how it can keep up.

Hey RacerX, on theres $5,000 in rebates right off the top for the truck you're looking for, and I can probably get you another $3,000 to $3,500 additional savings. Thats a high demand, hard to find truck right now. I'm at Tustin Chevrolet. Clyde Stires, 714-731-9100. I'm off today(thursday), but you can call me at home if you want. 949-387-4323

I ordered mine through fleet $150 over dealer invoice before the rebates. Good Luck with a new ride.

Mind if I ask what dealer? North County GMC wants $750 over invoice if I order a 2004, they aren't giving much room on their remaining 2003's at all because of all the rebates. They are acting like that $5K is coming out of their own pocket.

Call, or Check Web sight, or Go to Mossy Chevrolet in Encinitas. I checked all the Players down here in San Diego and Mossy has the "MSRP$\Invoice$" listed on the vehicles. and their $500.00 over invoice is their stated asking 'No deal price". I went in with info on the actual dealer invoice cost and got my Suburban for $700.00 UNDER the advertised invoice cost.

OL You're right. I paid $35.300 out the door (not 33.5). Still a good price.
Not having the Duramax saved $3000, and ordering the excellent leather bench was $1.100 less than the Captains chair buckets + even less with the single CD changer instead of the 7CD changer.
On top of that, I got a good discount. See Elliot, he'll show you my sales contract.
I've never believed that the dealers invoice was a legit document. I know several new car dealers post on this board,, and will want to bust my balls,, but the "Invoice" is a fake.
If the window sticker is $40.000, the dealer paid 20. The invoice is phony.
My daughter goes to a private school that is generously supported by a local Toyota Dealer.
This Toyota dealer gives the school millions yearly.
This dealer can't make this kind of commitment marking up the 60 cars a week he sells $300 over invoice. His service Dept isn't so busy that it can pick up the tab either.
A neighbor owns Valley Park Ford in Chatsworth.
His new dealership sits on 12 of the most valuable acres in LA.
I drink Margaritas with he and his family at Chuys in Simi a few times a month,,, and we argue constantly what he really pays for his cars and trucks.
He sells usually 45 cars and trucks a week at $200 to 500 over invoice. His service dept barely runs through 60 cars a day.
That new Ford Dealership costs alot more to run than what those figures would tell you,, a lot more.
The Invoice is BS.

I got my fully loaded 2500HD 4X4 Crew Cab with DMax for $500 over invoice then took off the rebate. Call Tony Toy at Sierra Chevrolet or call Rydell Chevrolet in Northridge and ask for the Fleet Dept.

TPC,
I know some people in the car business (management not salesman) and let me tell you the invoice is real. But there is a little secret profit built into every car that most people don't know about. Its called hold-back. On a $40k truck its about $1,500 depending on the MFG. That is how they can sell some trucks for $700 back of invoice and some for $500 over etc. Not to mention that dealers make most of their money on used car trade-ins that they steal from the customers. Often they will go into the hold back if they are stealing the trade wink
Anyway, take $1,200 holdback + $200 over invoice and muliply it times 45 cars a week, 4.3 weeks in a month and you can see that $270,900 is not a bad gross profit for one month. And most people are paying well over $200 over. That doesn't include all the profit on used cars, financing, service, etc.
That is how these dealers are living so large.
Hope this helps someone out who is car/truck shopping.
OL
ps, it doesn't sound like your truck is as loaded as you said it was, that would explain the price you got. If you had "...every option but the Duramax and snowplow..." it would be much more. Again, no flames intended, I'm just trying to help out some people who want to get the best deal. :D

Dealers get bonuses for volume and types of cars sold also, and I'd say that Toyota guy is getting a hell of a tax break for contributing to the school. He's also looking good in the public's eye for making such a nice contribution. It's not all about price sold minus invoice equals profit, theres alot more variables than that. If I get treated right somewhere and the service department is good, that means alot to me.

I know for a fact that he can do at least 2-3k better on that.

Racerx, The dealer I use is Bob Stall in La Mesa. I did get the Chevy, not the GMC. I order the Duramax/Allison Crew Cab 4x4 Longbed, Most options, no leather, DVD or XM, but everything else. Forgot to mention special paint color. Sticker $48.9

Thanks for everybodys input.
The truck I was after was a WHITE one. There were a total of (3) dealers that had one left and (2) weren't coming down much off sticker. They are using the 5K in rebates as leverage to charge more.
One dealer was "reasonable" but he's way up in Simi Valley and I still would have had to haggle over our trade. I didn't want a 6 hour round trip for my troubles so I've decided to wait for the 2004 model and get EXACTLY what I want.
I had one fleet dealer in Orange County who was totally up front about the Simi Valley deal. he was making $1K over invoice, plus holdback of 3% ($1300) and they also get $500 when a buyer comes to GM from another brand....so even when you get something "AT invoice", they are making their $$.
Thanks again...

Not sure on the price for the duramax, but I just got a quote today on a Ford.
2003 F250 4x4 crew cab,6.0 diesel,5 speed auto,3.73 limited slip,FX4 package, towing package, electric shift on the fly, sliding rear window, power seats, and a few other options.Sticker price is $42,700 Brokers price is $37,179.That's with some rebates Ford is offering. I just got quoted the same truck for 33k and change. Yes it's loaded with every option except the King Ranch edition. 5.9% interest too.
I know for a fact that he can do at least 2-3k better on that.
Buck The 37K looks close to X plan and the 33 looks more like D plan pricing.

Try calling Ted Fagart GMC in Porterville, Ca
Talk to Ted, he is a Boat Racer & can make a good deal on a duramax.
A friend bought on in March, & nobody could get close to what he paid.

RacerX,
One tip is to buy your truck on the last day of the month of the last day of the quarter, but not if a Sunday as people at the credit end tend to be off. Dealers have their numbers they want to hit and this is your best opportunity. We went to four dealers in one day, the day before Easter in 02. First one was off the 91 in Anaheim Hills. Fleet guy was a load and they had two. Corona GMC had a few, but out of the price range. At 60 and 71 is a GMC fleet dealer who had six, but the only one I wanted had extendo mirrors. Then we cruised up to Victorville (Rancho Motors) as I had been talking to Rocky (a chick) for a couple of months. Got the price to 38K flat for 2002 GMC Dura/allison CC/SB 40/60 seats in cloth and fogs. Very happy with deal. Rancho is Chevy now. DMax is worth the wait. Duck

I'm over in Oceanside....I assume you checked North County GMC in Escondido. They had at least one but it was pre pimped out (lift, tires, wheels, DVD system, etc..) and they wanted like $55K. That's was about at 100% mark-up on the add-on's and they don't deal on price much.
Tri GMC in Hemet had one but they wouldn't even come off sticker with all the rebates running. Not much use of the rebates if they are using them against the buyer. they didn't understand that the rebates aae an added INCENTIVE.
I don't know if you heard but in Decemeber, they will be doing some enhancements on the engine. that engine will be hitting the streets in late January. If I get one, I've decided I'm going to order one and have it ready for next year.

The MAIN website for Chevy Diesl trucks is thedieselpage.com . I read the info about the engine off that page then called the dealer to confirm the info. If you're going to getthe Duramax engine, a little research on that website is almost required...VERY informative!!

Don't get me wrong here guys, I would only own one brand of truck, and that's a chevy...but the Duramax may not be the right choice just yet. My good friend is a mechanic at a local dealer. He only works on trucks, and whenever there is a problem with a diesel, he's the one that fixes them, and right now, he is working on more duramax's than anything...mostly injector problems, but a lot of other issues also. Maybe the 2004 models will have some of the issues resolved.

I think their quality sucks. I'm buying Dodges now. Since they partnered up with Mercedes their quality is pretty good. Just bought my second Dodge 03' Cummins 4x4 QC and couldn't be happier. Give 'em a try. Seems Chevy will be a while before they work out the bugs.

We bought a Chevrolet 2003 Duramax crew cab in late July, paid $100.00 under invoice, it's not a 4X, we just wanted a 2 wheel drive. If you belong to AAA, that's the shit. Contact them they put you in touch with the dealer closest to you who works with them. For the truck we bought the standard charge was $400.00 over invoice, but at the time they were offering $500.00 rebate for owning a non-chevy vehicle. Great deal, no hassling, you tell them exactly what you want, sometimes you have to wait a little while for them to find what you want, but it's worth the wait. Ours came right off the train and we picked it up, no haggling with anyone! Don't know off hand exactly what we paid, but it's definitely worth looking into.

List your equipment and be ready to buy. Call each dealer and tell him you can get it for $1,000 less from another dealer you just contacted. Keep doing this until the dealers say "I can't beat that." You'll come up with a true bottom line of what you can get the truck for. If you are willing to travel a little to get it, you can save even more. Also heard somewhere in Idaho is a legit dealer who wholesales to the public.
Remember: Invoice or under invoice is just a game. There's holdback money only they know about. And the salesman motto "Never leave a Dollar on the table."
I think I would buy the extended warranty with the Duramax. Diesel repair can be expensive and I've heard of some problems. You might want to check with some owners of the Duramax to see how they have been holding up. I'm sure there is a forum on the net somewhere.
