Anyone know where the engine code is on a Chevy 350? Just bought a 77 Minni Winne with wicked valve clattering. Pulled the cover and found the tops of the valve are rounded off. The two worst valves the rockers actually slipped off and were pressing the top of the spring. Also the retainers look a bit funny to me, not ligning up quite right.
Looking for a set of rebuilt heads, called around and everyone wants the engine code. Some guy said it was in the VIN code but didn't know which letter.

The VIN's 8th digit indicates the engine type. the 10th is the model year I think that should be all you need...that is according to my 01 Suburban Shop Manual...and you have to be able to guess the decade...
