Is it possible to have the "Sort By" box default to "Latest", kind of makes sense to me to see the latest pictures first and use the dropdowns if you are searching for something specific.

I agree to having the default as "latest". That is the way it was before the "changes" happened, and it only makes sense to see the latest pic's that were submitted.

Jest click the sort by box to latest when you go there...

What I find fustrating is that the Members Gallery will say sorted by Latest, but is actually alpha. I agree that they should be default to Latest, plus I think the default setting for posting should be Members Gallery.
