First boat was a 1976 19' Tahiti jet boat. Boat ran like a champ. My bro and I bought it for $1,500, gave it a new paint job, new gauges, new interior, added a bimini top, redid the top half of the motor, had the pump rebuilt. Very reliable 455 olds for 3 years until we let a cousin take it for a spin, he had a heavy foot and the motor went quietly. Sold it last year to help with the new Cat.

1977 Mirage 19' 460 Ford with a Panther jet. Bought it in 1992 and used it for three seasons in Havasu. Fun boat! Then I got sick of sitting in the channel on busy weekends because of rough water on the lake and I only had room for three other people. So, I stepped up to a bigger boat (22').

84" Eliminator Liberty that I bought in 94" with a BBF
Unless you count the two 87' 550 stand up ski's I bought in 89', I still don't consider those boats.
The Liberty was a great starter boat, did everything well, just too heavy to make go fast, actually a waste of time to try for 100mph with those 600lb. hulls.

!982 Bahner Closed bow jet. Bought it in 2000, and it got stolen in 2001. We were a little bummed out. It was a great boat. Nick

Bought a used 1979 Challenger 18' jet boat in 1990 for $5000.
It was a piece of crap when I bought it, but at 23 years old, I thought I was soooo cool.
I fixed, rebuilt or replaced everything on that boat. When I sold it a few years back, I got no where near what I had into it, but that's just the way it is.
Here's a pic:

My parents boats don't count so...The first boat I owned was a 13ft kayak I made from a mold in 1972. It looks great and it weighs a little over 35lbs. I still take it out for exercise on lake balboa once and a while and every time I do, several people ask how much it cost and where can they get one. Esp after they see me lift it off the car and carry it to the water with one hand. They are always dissapointed when I tell them I made it myself with $50 in materials. If I was a bit more industrious I would splash a mold off of it and make and sell them for a grand or so each. I've seen kayaks that don't look as good and are much slower and heavier sell for several times that.
My current boat is the first powerboat I've owned outright. It's an 86, 19ft Eliminator Sprint (part of the reason for my name here) with an Erude XP 150 V 6 weedwacker on the back.

78 Eliminator jet w/beefed up 454 and headers. Not sure of the model but I think maybe a sprint....
I loved that boat. My brother and I went in on it together. He was in N CA and I was in S CA. Somehow it was getting difficult to use it myself :). That is who I recently sold my Southwind to. My brother saw it and had that kind of nostalgic tear in his eye. I was not going to sell it but I knew my brother would enjoy and take care of it.

1976 Anthony, BBC, Jet.
Worked on that boat more than I drove it.
Only got 2 trips out of it, each for 5 minutes.
Learned - you can't build (reliable) jet boat motors on a budget.
Miss that boat, it was bad a$$.

Our first boat was a 14' wood kit-boat that my Dad built in the garage after work and on weekends, Took him about 6 months. I wanted to help but he said I wouldn't be able to stand the itch. It had a 40 hp Johnson on it.
Because that little boat wouldn't pull an anchor out of the water, we all had to learn how to jump-start. I can remember standing ankle deep in the muck on the shore of Piru Lake, throwing down 30' of slack and putting my left foot in the rear shoe of my Featherglide. What a ride!
I don't know what ever happened to that home made boat, but I remember the day my Dad pulled up the road towing a brand new red and white Brendella hull. I got to help drop the Ford into that "inboard".
And I still have that beautifull Featherglide.

My first owned boat is a 2004 26 DCB, it will be done by feb, I hope. Back in the day we all had the neighborhood beater, 19' Gayliner, we had much fun on that thing. All we needed it to do was float and transport all of the ice chests to Copper Canyon. Those were the days :)

I can remember the Parker strip packed with 18ft jet boats, flat bottoms and no jet skiis. Before dark on the hot guys would come out and the races started.
