I don't get it. First they state that you have to be 18 to be on this site, then they continue to list a set of rules that would make it safe for a 4 year old to participate on the boards. What gives?

Frree speech is funny that way. It's best when it is only speech you want to hear.:(

I'm thinking it may have to do with some folks spending more time trashing others than actually taking part in the thread discussions. I'm not talking about the usual ribbing and poking fun. Some of the trashing has gotten ugly, IMHO detracts from the board. Just my .02

Well,
I for one have always had a problem with people posting Hustler type images next to someone else's pictures of children. I don't want picures of my kids / grandkids on a site with porn on it.
Now with that being said, I don't mean thongs or pasties or stuff that you can see in alot of mainstream publications. I mean the stuff that should go on the ***boatpics Forum.
It's also my understanding that the website administrators have an agreement with their providers that this won't be a porn site.
Since ***boat owns this site, they have a right to dictate the content. This is not censorship and nobody's first ammendment rights are being violated. The government and / or ***boat is not threatening anyone with arrest or prosecution. You can't go into Safeway and buy porno mags or videos because they choose not to market them. They could if they wanted to.
There are alot of places on the internet that you can go to and look at porn. I'm not anti porn, I'm just for keeping it away from a forum dealing with what is predominantly a family activity.
MY .02

Here's the point: This is either an adult, 18+ board, or it isn't.
If it is, let people post and act as mature adults; let situations resolve themselves.
If it isn't, hire a few full time moderators, repost accurate rules of engagement, let everyone know, enforce those rules with calmness and maturity, and then let the people float where they may.
i.e. Tell us how it is, and we'll act accordingly.
And the two groups of audience are not mutually exclusive, imo: family pictures are not out of place on an 18+ board, but certainly 18+ pics are out of place on a family board.
And on a related note: trying to draw the line between an 18+ site and a porn site by removing nudity is absurd. It is a subjective and judgemental decision. And wether intentional or not, it draws the administrators with an appearance if bias and opressiveness.
That's just my opinion, but I'm sticking to it.

Well leibniz, why don`t you pay for the moderators that you suggest be hired for this site. Right now its free and I really like that.
Family type forum is cool with me but which one? I do agree that this is no porn site and I wouldn`t want it to be. Most stuff I agree with in the administrators comments. I do realize also that it is not to be read into TOO deeply. Basic common sense and a little respect should be exercised.
Now there is always an exception to the rule and I am the exception.:yuk:

You know when Eliminator had their forum (for all of a couple of months) their software "bleeped" any profane language. It even would "bleep" names like the nickname for Richard. It would come out of the censor software with one letter and 3 asterisks...can I say asterisks???

Why should they be paid? Do the current moderators collect a salary? And anyway, there shouldn't be much moderating to do. If you state this is an 18+ board, people should post accordingly. I'm merely pointing out that it is very obvious that this place is suddenly moving toward a family environment. By next year you won't even be able to say 'turd' without the post getting axed.
Right now its free and I really like that.
Me too. Were it a pay site, I wouldn't be here.

I also agree with that 100%.

That's right. On both counts.
If you must apply the moderation brush, apply it evenly and we're all happy. (Well mostly, anyway... )

This is my favorite new rule:
You will not post any material that is knowingly false, misleading or inaccurate.
I guess that means no more dyno results or top speeds can be posted
